I genuinely wasn't aware the number 88 had Nazi connotations.

"No, I'm not a Nazi, I just wanted to celebrate the Dutch football teams success in 1988"

That's a more valid excuse than his though. At least the Dutch won something in 1988, unlike his Dad dying in that year despite still being alive now.

The number 14 that he appears to have tattooed on his head could represent Johan Cyruff's shirt number.

GRcade is officially smarter than neo-Nazis.

Would it be rude to ask my parents to make a bank transfer instead of giving us a gift of cash for our wedding anniversary?

It would, wouldn't it? :(

I'll just have to squirrel it away until the covid-19 fallout abates and we can actually go somewhere to spend it again.

It might lessen the act for them somewhat, doing it electronically rather than physically handing you something. Shouldn't really matter of course, but it does to some people.

Could you run over to the bank as soon as they've gone so it's saved away and you don't have the temptation of it lying around?

I'd rather not drive into Leicester to deposit £50. The issue is I want to spend it on the PS5 but, as my wife is at high risk, we're barely leaving the house at all now. So cash will just have to stay in a drawer until I feel safe to go into a shop or bank with it

Anyway, I'm going to not complain now as I sound so ungrateful

Can they give you a cheque instead? Many banks now allow virtual deposit of cheques where you use your phone to scan it in

Alternatively if they don't have that feature, I know a few banks allow you to send it off to them and they'll cash it on your behalf.

Can't you go to the Post Office? A lot of banks allow deposits at the Post Office now.

here is a question. should I or should I not pay 'my' TV license?

I don't watch or stream Live/BBC programmes and I use my TV exclusively for Video games/Netflix/Amazon/Plex :/

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

I think the rule is that if you never watch anything "live" from any channel through any means (online, satellite, digital signal etc.) and you never download or watch anything on the iPlayer then you are fine

Basically boils down to no "...AND IT'S LIVE!" content, anywhere, on any service or platform, ever.

And if you argue 'yeah, but how's that in any way enforceable?' it's of course not. Nobody is coming after you for watching a live stream of the news on YouTube.

What will more likely get you into trouble is having your aerial or satellite dish plugged into your TV or continuing to watch BBC iPlayer.

Okay, I am fine with the GRcade consensus to be a criminal.

Bank transfer and ask them to send a card. Combines a practical need and wish with the wish to send a thoughtful or fun gift that represents how they see and feel about you.

I don't think the TV Licensing people will send out cards to people if you pay them by bank transfer.

Just be prepared to every single month get a really threatening letter that amounts to absolutely nothing.

Every single month without fail they threaten me with people coming here to investigate.
