Asked for, and was given, an extension on my book which was due on Monday, and when I e-mailed to confirm that the extension had definitely been given I got the response of "Err, no?" Queried that and have been asked to get the manuscript in as soon as possible. I am legit hyperventilating.

That is so Cora!

Breathe my dude. In terms of real advice, this is an occasion where emails cannot replace phone calls. Get your commissioning editor/closest ally on the phone and speak about what's realistic and what's not. Tell them what you have read that can be sent by the deadline. Give them something to work on while you finish the rest. Finally, give them a realistic new date for when you're confident the rest of the work can be completed, that's the best way to abate them.

I think people are misunderstanding when I say it was due on Monday. I meant it was due last Monday.

Thankfully the editors have been pretty OK about it given that there has been massive upheaval - the commissioning editor left in September and I only heard back from them about a replacement one week before the deadline. I still have a bit to do, but they've told me I can take a little extra time to sort out the last few things, add the last few thousand words and break up the literature review (which is nearly 80 pages long) across some of the chapters.

I'm about to submit an essay for uni due tomorrow and was stressing at that but you've put me at ease. My last two I've done on a wee laptop on the sofa but upgraded last night to my husband's stream set up. Two screens, plus laptop and microphone for dictation. Game changer.

If I didn't have work to do I swear I'd be halfway to Dundee in my bare feet at this point!

I did exactly the same thing last night. :toot:

I once ate one of those big petrol station sized bags of red liquorice all sorts in one go, and I felt like I was going to die, throw up and travel through time all at once. Never had a sugar overload quite like it.

TIL! Wikipedia tells me that sugar highs don't exist (in terms of hyperactivity, obviously sugar can give you energy), but sugar crashes do. I'm sure I've experienced the latter so that checks out I guess. When I was little it was only ever coke that would affect me, no doubt because of the caffeine (to which I still have little tolerance).

I know we've had plenty of progressive discussions on here about legalising weed and the like but I definitely draw the line at giving coke to kids!

This is all aligning perfectly with the Jacob Rees-Mogg vision of the future.

A world where the crack dens and workhouses are combined into a single, more efficient location where the child workforce is kept under a careful chemical balance of red bull and crack which enables them to work tirelessly and remain compliant.

I've never had the pleasure of reading it but it has been on my list of books to get around to for a very long time!
