I found the whole marching thing completing hypocritical. Especially as Charlie Hebdo has printed another front page of the prophet and Twitter has gone into another meltdown. I have yet to see one person say exactly where in the Qu'ran that it is forbidden to have any images of Muhammed published anywhere.

I think that if they have put Muhammed on the front cover then thats a bit stupid, it will only escalate the violence and bad feeling.

The Quran, the Islamic holy book, does not explicitly prohibit the depiction of human figures; it merely condemns idolatry.[1][2] Interdictions of figurative representation are present in the hadith, among a dozen of the hadith recorded during the latter part of the period when they were being written down. Because these hadith are tied to particular events in the life of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad, they need to be interpreted in order to be applied in any general manner.

Isnt the Hadith the teachings of Muhammed? Kind of like how the New Testament is to the life of Jesus? Either was it's still in Muslim holy writings.

Guys, guys... maybe Muhammed went into witness protection and that's why he's so keen on no one drawing his picture.

Just been reading up on this now :dread: If that is in his election plan, no doubt he'll be losing a fair amount of younger voters.

Pretty ballsy move by the magazine. It's not like last time Muslims merely protested against their last cover, they went straight to extreme violence. Watching the Panorama program last night and how some of these extremists talk and the stuff they genuinely believe, you can't help but fear some nut jobs may try another attack of sorts on them.

You're not allowed to show mohammed even in tv even if the story is about islam they never show anyone or drawings. These french strawberry floating banana splits know exactly why they are doing it.

If you ever seen the film The Messenger you will know that we muslims do not show mohammed in drawings, films etc purely because he is a human and a prophet . Knowing history people will start worshipping him which he always advised against and said I'm just a messenger .

Maybe you need to shut the strawberry float up.

See this is why you guys will never understand a muslim. Our prophet is more dear to me than my own parents, I love him more than the world, joke all you want but I find it insensitive and moronic thing to do .

It's as if you insult my parents.

So why are the words 'Peace be upon him' automatically inserted into a sentence after mentioning his name by some Muslims? Sounds pretty much like worshipping him to me...

By the way, is the same rule applied to Allah? Can he be pictured?

You're right, I will never understand this. Because to Western secular thought processes, it doesn't add up and is pretty unfathomable. It's interesting, though.

Eighthours, peace be upon him is a sign of respect. Worship of the teachings is one thing, but idolatry is forbidden. (Generally not the mere portrayal of the prophet, though that still is distasteful).

You obviously worship god, but you do not worship his image.

I'm not going to spoonfeed about islam. It is out there for you to learn but you choose not to because you are blinded by your ignorance of ''i know better''.

Well, if you know better than how come you don't know something as simple as what you're asking? Not that smart huh.

Allah is. As said, peace be upon him is merely a sign of respect toward what is regarded as gods last prophet on earth. I feel as though you clearly understand this but are playing dumb for the purpose of deriding the religion as a whole.

Not at all - I think that having a stock phrase to say every time you mention someone's name is intriguing in many ways.

It's a common thing actually. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand it in the bigger picture, but yes, if you are a true muslim you should love your prophet more than anything else on earth. Now this is not because it's demanded or expected ....Islam teaches parents are the most important thing in your life and without you respecting you are not a true muslim.

I don't see why they need to go out of their way to draw Mohammed, what are they hoping to achieve except insult 2 billion people on earth? This is just publicity stunt, would any of you guys know these strawberry floating french banana splits if they didn't do this? No, of course not.

We respect other religions and don't go out of our way to draw or do something that offends them. Atheist are just strawberry floating bored and need constant approval which just begs of sadness.

What about pictures of Jesus, Moses etc? They were also prophets, but Muslims don't seem to mind pictures of Jesus?

I find it odd that Islam teaches that there is only one God and that Mohammed is only a prophet and yet Muslims get so angry about disrespect towards Mohammed. I get that he is important to the religion, but if you are so worried about idolatry, I would suggest you are already doing so by making Mohammed so much more important than any other person or prophet.
