What is your favourite battle royale game and why is it Tetris 99?

For those who didn't know this game was developed by Arika, the same studio that made Tetris the Grand Master.

I think attack the right people helps and learning t-spins etc.

Had a few games earlier today, pretty addictive stuff. I placed 5th on my second attempt, then got 3rd a couple of attempts later and that's my highest placing at the moment.

Wish the ghost piece outlines were a little more visible - like they are in Tetris DS/Puyo Puyo Tetris - but I got used to it. Also wished I had a controller with a better d-pad, but the directional buttons on the joycons suffice for me.

You not have pro controller?

No, just the joycons and gamecube controllers. I'd use a pro controller if I had it.

Does the cube controller work with it?

It does, I had a couple games with it.

I tried the gamecube pad for Puyo Puyo Tetris and didn't really get on with the d-pad. The gamecube pad works with all games, though not properly with all because of a lack of buttons and gyro.

Level 20, 87 games and the best I have done is 4th. About 15 top 10s though.

I was so convinced I was great at Tetris. :fp:

This looks great, is it really only on Switch?

My partner is completely addicted to this at the moment. Looks really cool! Simple but solid execution of a cool concept.

It could use a tutorial though, she almost gave up after the first round when she couldn't figure out the controls.

Hey, Karl - I've not played the game but I have read that a number of people have mentioned the lack of instructions. This guide by Nintendo Life seems to be pretty decent. The badge system appears to be important!

Thanks, I'll send it to her! She actually just now got her first Top 10 -- she's got the controls down now, but I think she'll be interested in the tactics and hints. She's not that much of a gamer so it's not so often a game really clicks with her, but she seems to be getting really into this one!

Even though the game has had a great reception, I'm probably not gonna try it out myself. I do like puzzlers, but when a timer / race mechanics are involved... too much pressure!

I know people might be really put off with using a "knock off" Pro Controller but I've been using >this one< for over a month now (Green and Pink Splatoon one, which was the Pro controller I owned with my first Switch) and can't complain at all. Battery life is as good as a real Pro Controller, motion controls work and the analogs/D-Pad have been fine. Doesn't have Amiibo NFC functionality and won't turn your Switch on, that needs to be on first before pressing any of the buttons to use the controller.

Brilliant if you also just want a cheap wireless controller for multiplayer.

I've managed to get 6th twice I started using my wiiu pro controller (Via 8Bitdo's Retro Reciever) but I switched back to the joycons as I don't accidentally hard drop pieces as i'm trying to make lines.

I would love if somehow they were able to get permission for a console port of the series. I've watched vids where they've played this at GDQ events and I am mindblown at the level of skill required for the top level play.
