PostThe £139 Gaming PC challenge thread [Build Found]
by Rik » Tue May 07, 2013 7:56 pm

After my fruitful excursion into the tragedy that is the PC gaming thread I was told that we could build a gaming PC for less than an Xbox 360 :o In fact I got owned and humiliated because I didn't believe it but it's true.

So I'm going to put it to the test as the people who owned me forgot to post any links to these parts. So the challenge is to build a PC from scratch with new parts for £139 or less with new parts that outperforms an Xbox 360 on Crysis 3. Or a PC with used parts for less than £49.95 delivered, which is how much I can get a used working 360 from amazon for today.

You must include delivery, all parts including case etc and an operating system that can run Crysis 3. Basically everything you would need from scratch including a control method and a way to connect to a HDTV and a Wireless connection. Basically everything a new 360 has included.

Once we have found all the parts I will buy them and then select a person who contributed to win this gaming experience of a lifetime!

No parts you found in a skip or just happened to have around, we must be able to link to them and buy them.

...Not sure if actual challenge or hyper-passive-aggressive troll.

It's real. I will buy the parts myself and donate this gaming monster to a contributor.

Or we could hold a raffle and donate the proceeds to Grcade.

It's a bit of fun Silva

If it can be done then it will cost me up to £139, which would serve me right for being a stupid Peter Crisp right?

Are we counting the cost of the really nice couch to play from because it's just so comfy?

No, we just have to replicate what you would get in the 360 box.

If you achieve anything he asks, it will soon come to "make me an xbox for 139 quid" and if you can do that, then it'll be "make an xbox for 139 that has been on the market for almost a decade".

Seriously, this guy is majorly gotten to, he was making ridiculous assumptions in PCGT, got his ass handed to him and then started reporting himself and changing goalposts so that the thread would get locked and his nonsense deleted

Hand my ass to me Silva, I'm even prepared to pay for it to happen. I've even put that used option there so your friend can use his ebay parts. Couldn't be fairer really 8-)

All it has to do is play Crysis 3 at 720p and 30fps, nothing else.

What about gold and the extra cost of the game. That's got to bump the budget up another £30-£40?

We dont need gold to play the game and you get a month free with the new 360 anyway.

What if you wanted to play for 4 or 5 weekends online though?
