Christopher Walken wrote:Hello, GRcade. Boy, I sure heard a bunch about you. See, I was a good friend of your dad’s. We were in that pit of hell together for over five years. Hopefully, you'll never have to experience this yourself, but when two men are in a situation like me and GR were, for as long as we were, you take on certain responsibilities of the other. If it had been me who had not made it, GamesRadar would be talking right now to my son Jim. But the way it turned out is I'm talking to you, GRcade.

I got something for ya. This award I got here was first purchased by your great-grandfather during the first world war. It was bought in a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee, made by the first company to ever make internet awards. Up until then, people just carried metal statues. It was bought by Future Publishing the day he set sail for the Internet. This was your great-grandfather's war award, and he carried it every day he was in the war. Then when he had done his duty, he went home to your great-grandmother, took the award and put it in an old coffee can. And in that can it stayed 'til your granddad Daily Radar was called upon by his country to go overseas and fight the Germans once again. This time they called it World War Two. Your great-granddad gave this award to your granddad for good luck. Unfortunately, Daily Radar’s luck wasn't as good as his old man's. Daily Radar was a Marine and he was killed along with all the other Marines at the battle of Wake Island. Your granddad was facing death, and he knew it. None of those boys had any illusions about ever leaving that island alive. So three days before the Japanese took the island, your granddad asked a gunner on an Air Force transport named Winocki, a man he had never met before in his life, to deliver to his infant son, who he had never seen in the flesh, his award.

Three days later, your grandfather was dead. But Winocki kept his word. After the war was over, he paid a visit to your grandmother, delivering to your infant father, his Dad's award. This award. This award was on your Daddy's wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp. He knew if the mods ever saw the award that it'd be confiscated; taken away. The way your Dad looked at it, this award was your birthright. He'd be damned if any mods were gonna put their greasy green hands on his boy's birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide something. His ass. Five long years, he wore this award up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the award. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the award to you.

Most Underappreciated Forumite

Nominees: Bud Clay; Dalax; jiggles; Parksey; Rogueleader; St. Nick

Now, some of the more smart-arsed amongst you might be thinking, "heh, these people can't be truly underappreciated because we're voting for them to win an award". To these people I say SHUT UP, but I also remind them that the full title of this category is Most Underappreciated Forumite (AKA I Wish They Would Post More). So, the winner of this award may be well known amongst the community, but doesn't necessarily post as much as they should.

All the nominees of this award should be proud of themselves, and hopefully it will be enough to spur them on to posting a little bit more. These forumites brighten up a thread with their presence. Their relatively small contribution to the community means so much more than some of the more prolific posters here. In short, we love you. Please post more.

All the nominees for this award are winners. Or, more accurately, the actual winner is...

Most Missed Forumite

Nominees: Buffalo; Drunken_Master; Pell; rinks; Sarge; The Baron Of Rhymes

Well, hello, who's this?

In my many travels I have met several colourful characters. I will not miss the company of any of them. One particular time comes to mind when taking a mid-morning summer stroll in Hyde Park. There, two rival arborists were having a fell-off of sorts in taking down the diseased and dead trees that plagued the beautiful park. Seeing many a young lady marvellling at the two dashing lumberjacks I took the opportunity to show off my wit and my considerable intellect compared to these two manual labourers.
“Tree surgeons are they?” I chortled “I doubt they could handle the trunk in my trousers!” I was quite surprised that no-one was laughing and the women in the general area had a look of pure disdain on their faces! They must have been nuns now that I think of it. The two men then walked straight up to me as I contorted my face into as smug an expression as possible, they started punching me!
“I say!” I said, “What is the meaning of this?!”. But before I could get a reply I bravely ran off towards the hotel where I was to meet the oat emperor, William Nostleton.

No I will not miss those men at all, but there are others you do miss and not even my brilliant skills have been able to persuade their return. And your Most Missed Forumite is...
