An older game, but I started playing Grand Ages Rome on ultra settings! Love this game.

Some pictures from my latest game of Civ 5...

My modest sized, but culturally and technologically advanced Civ...

My main competition, one small part of the huge and merciless Mongol Empire...

One little sub carrying a couple of small nuclear missiles...

...and the result, one big explosion, wiping out units and (although you don't see it here) halving the evil Mongols capital defenses and size...

Yeah. It looks nice but The Witcher 2 has spoiled me when it comes to fantasy environments. I know The Witcher 2 doesn't have the same scope as Skyrim, but it's spoiled me nonetheless.

Its a DX9 engine, if they ever get round to adding DX11 support it should look pretty stunning.

Not that it doesn't already look very good as far as I'm concerned.

once modded itll look nice. i just have a bit of a dislike for gamebryo engine in general. Ugly charcters and awful animations seems to be its raison detre

Skyrim certainly suffers from this, but then out of the blue BAM: amazing vista. It's very up and down.

I think what its lacking are those really fancy DX11 lighting effects and stuff, how anyone could look at those last two screens and say its disappointing I don't know.

Even the characters really don't look bad, the animations are much better than they ever have been before in a Bethesda game too.

Agreed. The Northern Lights really are stunning. There's still a clunkiness to it though, especially after play Battlefield and RAGE (however massively unfair that comparison is).

I suppose RAGE is a better comparison in terms of the hardware the games are made to run on, though its obviously not rendering anything like the areas seen in Skyrim.

Actually it makes me wonder what ID Tech 5 could do in an open world environment.

Its just such an amazingly well designed world, I don't think theres ever been anything like it before. Can't understand people who think Oblivion had the better world, complete nonsense.
