It's a shame that to a lot of people the meme is all he's really known for, and not the absolutely incredible performance as Hitler he gave in that film :(

To be fair, I’m not surprised he hated it. I imagine after filming it, he was proud of his work-a pivotal scene of emotion. And the world’s reaction wasn’t mainly to the turn it into a laughing stock.
