Shame about Derek. Morrisons will sadly have to cancel his range of Derek Pakora's.

I wouldn't say Derek Acorah was bad, or good. I'd say he was average.... but then he did always want to be medium.

Neil Peart, the drummer of iconic Canadian band Rush, has died at age 67.

The influential musician and lyricist died Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., after having been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement issued Friday by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz.

I'm so gutted by this. Love Rush.

'The Garden' on their most recent album has taken on another meaning.

Excellent lyricist as well. I've brought up Witchhunt before on here, that song basically shows how little the world has changed since the 80's. The Right exploding, intolerance etc.

Yeah I'd agree with that. It's one of my go-to songs when I boot up Rock Band for any reason, utterly fantastic. The line about immigrants and infidels is top tier songwriting. Unbelievable that it's almost forty years old.

Rush were always fantastic at creating stories with their lyrics and my understanding was that Peart was the guy behind all of that - the swerve into Randian philosophy wasn't up my alley but the songs are brilliant. Limelight is another song that's absolutely prescient IMO.

Selfishly I'm really glad I got to see him and the rest of the band in 2011. They played a three hour set, the whole of Moving Pictures plus a greatest hits.

I seen them on that tour as well, in Dublin :D

I was still in the phase of getting to know their stuff at that point. I had only listened up to Moving Pictures, so when they played stuff like Subdivisions (and Marathon, I think?) I was a bit lost. It was a brilliant show nonetheless.

Peart did an extended drum solo. It's the first time I've ever seen a drummer do that.

I was kind of in the mid-point in that I knew Moving Pictures, 2112 and a bit of their more synth-y '80s output but there were still quite a few gaps in my knowledge of the band. Even with them, the gig sits pretty comfortably in my top ten of all time. We got the extended drum solo in Glasgow too.

It's not too much of a stretch to say that Peart was one of the all time great rock drummers, I'm sad to hear about this.

Now that Christopher has died, we may get far more Tolkien adaptations. Christopher was apparently the one who held the estate back from selling all of the rights.

So "The Hobbit 4: Silmaril Boogaloo!" will be released late 2021.
