I have some mixed feelings about de Klerk overall but I can't deny he had apologised to the people of South Africa many times.

It does seem strange how he is being presented as a purely heroic figure in death by some. By his own words he had very little choice but to end apartheid amid the economic sanctions South Africa was under, and there were no real repercussions for those who enabled and benefited from apartheid.

Anne Rice, author of Interview with the Vampire, dies aged 80.

I enjoyed her first 3 books in the Vampire Chronicles. They kind of went a bit weird after that.

Tale of the body thief is an acquired taste. Memnoch the Devil is great but completely different in tone.
First three are superb though. Sad to hear this.

It's been some 20 years or more since I read the first 3 books so I find myself tempted to read them again on hearing this news.

I just read the first three again a week or so ago. I'd heartily recommend it.
