Sounds like a heart attack in his hotel room in Bogata. Probably narcotics sadly.

He overdosed on drugs while they were playing Reading years ago and went into a coma.

There's a few Foos songs he sings on, and they're all gems. I always absolutely adored this one.

Think this is the most devastated I've ever been by a celebrity death. The Foo Fighters were the band that properly got me into music as a teenager and I've loved them ever since, both their music and their personalities that oozed through in everything they did, and Taylor was a huge part of that.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if this is the end of the Foo Fighters. Dave and Taylor were super close, basically brothers. They'd have probably carried on playing together forever otherwise-they had a few rocky patches in the early days but the band seemed in a great place with Pat back and Rami on keys. Hard to see Dave wanting to go on now.

"Tearing through the room like an F5 tornado was Taylor Hawkins, my brother from another mother, my best friend, a man for whom I would take a bullet. Upon first meeting, our bond was immediate, and we grew closer with every day, every song, every note that we ever played together. I am not afraid to say that our chance meeting was a kind of love at first sight, igniting a musical "twin flame" that still burns to this day. Together, we have become an unstoppable duo, onstage and off, in pursuit of any and all adventure we can find. We are absolutely meant to be, and I am grateful that we found each other in this lifetime."

From Dave's thanks to each of his friends in the last chapter of his book, The Storyteller.

Came here to share something similar but this is absolutely perfect. Watching the Foos live is always one of the highlights of my year - they just seem to absolutely love being in each other’s company. Can’t imagine how hard this is going to hit them, and obviously his family.

Devastating. RIP.

Can't believe this. Echo the sentiments already posted. 50 is no age.

My daughter falls asleep to Foos albums in the car (Medicine at Midnight & Sonic Highways in particular) and I'm heading out for the day with her shortly, going to be an emotional drive.

Gutted. Can't see DG wanting to persevere with the band after this either. I'm sure he'll still write and record songs but I'd not be surprised if this is the end of the Foos.

RIP Taylor.

Ah this one's a tough one, I loved the Foo Fighters when I was a kid, one of my first big concerts was their 2007 Wembley show when I was 18. I haven't enjoyed their music since probably about The Pretender but I don't think you can argue they're not a good band, one of the few palatable "stadium level" rock acts. Genuinely sorry to see he's died, at a very young age too. :(

They'll definitely cancel their shows for the next twelve months or so, and may even go on a long hiatus, but I take a different tack on it from most of you in that I don't think it will be the end of the band. It's easy to forget that despite all of the other musicians being incredibly important to Grohl, and by all accounts his good friends, the actual direction of the music is, and always has been, his. That drive to create music won't disappear, and I actually think he'll believe it a disservice to Hawkins' memory to wrap up the band.
