I haven't enjoyed their music since probably about The Pretender but I don't think you can argue they're not a good band, one of the few palatable "stadium level" rock acts. Genuinely sorry to see he's died, at a very young age too.
They'll definitely cancel their shows for the next twelve months or so, and may even go on a long hiatus, but I take a different tack on it from most of you in that I don't think it will be the end of the band. It's easy to forget that despite all of the other musicians being incredibly important to Grohl, and by all accounts his good friends, the actual direction of the music is, and always has been, his. That drive to create music won't disappear, and I actually think he'll believe it a disservice to Hawkins' memory to wrap up the band.
I'd be surprised if they'd never had a "what do we do if one of us dies conversations" and 100% Taylor would have said don't wrap up the band. Whether Dave is up to it is another question though. Maybe given time though.
Really gutted by this news. First saw Foo Fighters live in 1994, and ended up going to many shows so had always been able to meet the guys. The Foo’s music had gotten largely stale in the last ten years, but Hawkins was always able to put out some brilliant stuff with other musicians. So have been a Hawkins fan for the last 20 years.
You should all check out his other stuff. He had three albums under Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. A solo EP called KOTA. An album by The Birds of Satan, and a single from the same group called Be The Bird which featured drummers Taylor Hawkins, Dave Grohl, Stewart Copeland, Zak Starkey, Stephen Perkins, Matt Cameron, Mark Brzezicki, Kenny Aronoff, Drew Hester and Butch Vig.

I absolutely love the first Coattail Riders album. Taylor has a great voice.

Edit: had a great voice
He absolutely did. I love his style of 70s classic rock.

If he were to decide to carry on, I could see him bringing Rufus Taylor in.
