2018 is off to a good start! I wonder if it was ever any good. I've just watched like 3 minutes and I can already feel this was a genuinely good show! Glad it wasn't just nostalgia that made me think it was good

I need too get around to watching the Japanese sub version some day just to see how different the western dub version really was because apparently they didn't have the full scripts to translate from and just made a lot of it up as they went along

As I understand it the Japanese version is a lot less comedic in nature.

The dub theme tune was also sung whilst drunk I believe.

One thing I want to watch is Cardcaptor Sakura. i never saw it growing up and there's a new series which debuted and is apparantly very good!

...The (Tokyo Ghoul) artwork changes slightly and improves greatly throughout its run and Kaneki has become one of my all-time favourite characters now. It gets darker than Death Note at times, so if you wanted something of a similar vibe then you've picked well.

...and its follow-up Tokyo Ghoul:re are awesome...Also, if you enjoyed Death Note it may be worth checking out the new series by the authors called Platinum End...

I hadn't known that there was a follow-up. I have the English (Viz Media) paperback books 1-4; and I believe that the fourth book only came out just before Christmas. I'll keep an eye open for Ghoul:re and Platinum End. Thanks again!

So, two years ago this month I started Tokyo Ghoul, mentioned it here and Jay kindly shared some thoughts. Stuff then happened and I stopped reading for no good reason. But - here in 2018 - I've returned to the series and I'm reading book two. It's ace and I have also picked up the first two books of the subsequent "Re:" series for when I've finished. Tokyo Ghoul is back in my life .

I watched some anime where a kid gets sent a parcel from his dad who is an adventurer or something travelling around the globe and it's a coffin (not a sarcophagus!) with a tiny mummy in it who he befriends.

-Miura is happy for an excuse to draw something less detailed for once what with the effort he puts into everything else.

-He feels he needs some form of comic relief to take the edge off the rampant child murder and rape.

It gets to the point where the fairies are just drawn that way by default and they only go detailed in the very rare circumstances they say something worthwhile.
