I think it has been described as a "corporate and special interest buffet"

That should be this game’s subtitle.

Do you have to pay for Spiderman separately?

This short, concise and simple blog post explains the whole labyrinthine mess:

All of the characters and missions, all non-cosmetic content is free.
If you want the pass per character, it’s 1000 credits (£10), which is cosmetics. However, if you level up the pass to its max level, you get the credits back.
It’s really not a ‘labyrinth mess’ as Trelliz puts it. I’m thrilled he’s finally arrived to continually gooseberry fool on this from up on his perch.

Had a go lastnight on Xbox. Just campaign so far and really enjoying it. Story is much more fleshed out than in the beta and seems like it has a good long and quite varied single player to run through with the multiplayer stuff almost seperate once you've finished it.

You can dive into multiplayer but it warns of story spoilers.

I knew there was single player but had assumed it was a brief into then essentially whole game was coop with you using bots as companions if want to play solo but it's actually a fully fleshed out story campaign with a mix of platforming, exploring and fighting.

Started at 12.30am for a quick go and went to bed about 4.30am so safe to say I'm enjoying this so far and pleasantly surprised.

It looks lovely too on the One X.

Not sure how long campaign is but 4ish hours in it feels like I'm a long way from the end.

I'm assuming like Smash Bros "Echo" fighters it's a premium reskin of Hawkeye?  And War Machine (when he comes) will be like Iron Man etc>?

Yeah seems that way. She-Hulk = Hulk and Black Panther = Cap probably

So, it seems the single player might actually be really good on this. Seen a few opinions on Twitter and on sites saying it’s a whole lot better than the beta showed.

I'm loving the campaign so far. The missions are a mix of slightly scripted bits like the opening bridge level and more open slightly generic bits more like the multiplayer missions but the story it excellent and all plays really well. I was happy with the beta but it's so much better than I dared hope it would be so far. They've nailed the story telling brilliantly and it's just fun and engrossing.

The War Table also showed off Kate’s Operation, Taking AIM, which will kick off in late October featuring a new villain and new mystery. Bishop comes with distinct Heroic Skills and takedowns.

I'd be curious how "distinct" they can make them - but it sounds like post game story content has a good schedule at least...hopefully

From what you have played can this be played solely offline as a single player or can you tell there are parts that are geared towards online multiplayer?

I think you need to be connected but you could play the entire thing on your own. Most campaign missions you play as a character sometimes with one or more other characters assisting you. Then there's multiplayer missions outside of campaign where you can play with friends or randoms but you can also turn off matchmaking and play solo with ai controlling the other characters.

So I don't think it ever forces you to play with other people and you could just play the campaign solo then play solo on the post campaign stuff with no issues. I haven't tried playing offline completely (as in no connection) so not sure if that'd work.

I haven't yet played with anyone else since the full release though. Some friends are getting it Friday so will do coop once we've all finished campaign but I'm not a fan of playing with randoms usually so I've been sticking solo upto now and really enjoyed it so far.

Decent score from Game Informer:

https://www.gameinformer.com/review/marvels-avengers/marvels-avengers-review-a-powerful-superhero-experience

Looks and sounds like the campaign is where it’s at, and it’s just the multiplayer that’s naff?

I’ll check it out after a price drop I think.

I read the plot of the campaign and it sounds like they've gone out of their way to make it as uninteresting as possible given the vast library of villains they have to work from.
