So I'm now on game two, chapter twelve.

I have a theory about this supposed darkness that's apparently headed to end the world.

The obvious conclusion is that the serpent is the darkness and threatens man, varl and dredge alike.

But now I'm wondering if Juno is the darkness. The other woman from the mender council told Bolverk they sentenced Juno to death for altering the mind of another. Eyvind, the talented apprentice mender, was visibly distraught at Juno's lifeless body back in game one and they have already stated they love one another...

Is Juno a mender so powerful she threatens the world? Has she bewitched Eyvind somehow? The incident with the stone bridge suggests Eyvind possesses incredible powers - yet he's Juno's apprentice.

The serpent has so far only spoken to Juno. Is it perhaps a god hunting for her? In (IRL) mythology Juno was queen of the gods; perhaps she has godlike power?

Finished the trilogy a few days ago.

Now on a second playthrough.

Won't read the spoilers but I'm impressed you aren't just completely exhausted from the stress of it all!

Just finished the first game last week, I originally did it years ago. I'll have to buy the next two games.

Is there a setting somewhere where characters can die die in combat? I thought that happened in my original playthrough 6 years ago but in my second playthrough it was only through story choices.

No, I think I misunderstood previously. The difficulty can be adjusted - easy mode means characters can't be "injured". If you have a character who is killed in battle on easy, they'll be fine and dandy for the next battle, but on any other difficulty level, they'll be injured and will require you to rest in camp before they can be available again.

I had mistakenly thought that some characters die in these battles, but that's because I had mixed up a character who was defeated in a battle, and a character who was killed off by the storyline immediately after that battle.

Once you realise that you can't ever make a 'wrong' decision that will prevent progress - no matter your choices, the game will proceed, it becomes less emotionally exhausting and more about being interested and wanting to know what happens.

I do think there are a few points the game doesn't make clear enough regarding general gameplay:

- Renown is currency; it doesn't provide any advantages if you accumulate it (apart from letting you spend more of it later on!) You need to spend it on promotions, supplies for your caravan, and items from markets.
- How many tiles a character can move each turn is a hidden stat, so it's worth testing new characters in Training to see how much they can move.
- The class of each character (displayed next to their rank) determines what abilities they can learn.

That's pretty much my only criticisms of the series, though!
