Destruction Derby is a good shout, I had endless amounts of game time on the demo

A few I haven't heard of like Micro Maniacs or Poy Poy so I'll check those out. Thanks for the recommendations everyone

Bishi Bashi Special
Bloody Roar (in my opinion the first is the best one - kinda like how some say Soul Edge is the best 'Soul' game)

Bloody Roar and Soul Blade/Edge were superb, think I prefered both over Tekken 2/3.

Bust-a-move/Puzzle Bobble 2 was also excellent in multiplayer.

I'm looking over the responses and I'm genuinely not sure if we're talking about "first party" games or "party" games! .

I'd consider nearly every game mentioned an acceptable 'party' game, even if not marketed as such.

Wipeout! Best PS1 game by a mile!

When I was a kid my friend down the street had a multitap

A couple that nobody has mentioned are:



Micro Maniacs, like micro machines but you have little characters that run and have their own unique abilities/attacks. The art and characters are really cool and I remember some of their backstories being quite dark



Bomberman racing, nothing special from what I remember but was a fun kart racer than was novel because you rode on top of animals instead of cars



We also played a ton of Bomberman party edition. It was so good. So many cool gimmicks, stages and power ups. You can also choose characters that have different abilities. My fave was the one with a jet pack, had a long charge up time, but it would shoot in a straight like and kill anyone you went past like a bomb blast.
