On holiday earlier this month and only had a BBQ to cook with. By the 7th day the novelty had worn off.

Is a Weber bbq worth the extra cost do you think? I can't see why they're so much more expensive.

Homebase has a kettle bbq for say £40 the same size weber is £150

No one has an expensive barbecue itt then?

I've got a Weber and it's very good. I get a good discount on them though so wasn't too expensive.

They are very good for what they do. Built well and easy to use. A lot of BBQ "experts" recommend them as the go to brand.

Difficult to say if the premium is worth it , but I will bet the build quality on the Weber is far superior to the Homebase model. And for something that will last 15+ years in your garden I think the extra money is not too crazy to go for.

I went to clean our bog-standard Argos BBQ after Saturday's supernova din-dins, only to discover that the coal grate had warped from the heat.

So yeah, the extra money might be well spent.

My big BBQ got mashed over the winter, I dont have a proper shed, the storage bunker I used got knocked over in a storm, BBQ lid got crushed and rust set in all over it. Anyway was looking at new ones and got a little kettle BBQ as a stop gap and its actually perfect. I only used half of the big BBQ anyway so I have more than enough room on this one. The only drawback so far is its lower than Im used to and haing to basically stand over it is hot as strawberry float.

Had a BBQ for the father in laws birthday yesterday, cooked for 12 people on it no problem, and had enough heat left at the end to grill up some pineapple so I think Ill stick with it for the forseeable future. At least until I get a proper shed to hold a proper BBQ.

In all honesty I'll probably downsize to something more like a kettle BBQ when our current one finally dies out, it's not that often you really need to the capability to cook like 20+ burgers simultaneously!

Regarding the inferno barbecue above, our current one did thst once when I put what must have been an entire bag of lumpwood on it. The grill bars were glowing red at one point and the whole lot sagged and set in a bowl shape rather than being flat like it's supposed to be

The cover for the new one and new set of tongs etc turned up yesterday. Unfortunately Homebase and flogas don't give any order status or tracking, so it's just a case of hope it turns up sometime soon. Got a load of ribs and stuff ready

The barbecue taste you're talking about actually comes from the fat dripping on to the rotating dimpled glass plate in the bottom of the microwave, so there's no actual difference between that and a charcoal barbecue.

It's all in the ritual, it tastes better if you use a wind up generator and warm the plate first in a solid iron sheath forged from reclaimed Viking swords.
