Yeah I guess that would be no different to cooking inside, I've always used them for keeping stuff hot after it's been cooked or you can cook outside of you want to do your breakfast or something. A hot plate is an additional component to a gas barbecue though, I'd wager ever gas barbecue has lava rock and a grill but only select models have a hot plate.

I like to chuck a few rosemary twigs on there at the end of cooking. Smells ace.

But what does your neighbour think of it?

I've set up a large series of vents and ducts that pipe the smoke directly into his house and over his washing line, so I hope he thinks it's ok.

Annual bump for the barbecue thread.

Rather than this descend into another coal/gas debate, let's be more positive. I'm in the mood to try new stuff. Give us your favourite recipes and hot BBQ tips.

Tip 1: Use coal otherwise it's not a BBQ.

Ok. Positive. I'm definitely positive it's less hassle to just use the oven/hob.

I’m gunna try some campfire cooking this year if that counts. I’ve got the cast iron for steak and am looking to invest in a tripod to hold a Dutch oven for chilli. If that counts.

We had an electric barbecue last weekend. Cooked a load of food in the oven and then sat outside and ate it.

Get on my level gas plebs.

Sounds good mate. Much better than messing about with coals isn't it.

Let's bump this mother for the lockdown smokedown :datass:

As the barbecue has been in hibernation, it's been decided that we're having one early afternoon tomorrow (Got the day off). Got a massive delivery of meats this afternoon from the butcher :datass:

Problem - the full bag of charcoal I thought we had is in fact half a bag...OF BRIQUETTES :dread: some of which have a light bit of mould on :dread: AND the barbecue grill bit is all fluffy too, so that'll need pressure washing this evening to be remotely usable tomorrow.

I strawberry floating hate briquettes, I can never seem to get them hot enough, and there's not that many in the bag so it may not be enough to cook.with anyway.

You win this round outdoors gas grill people :capnscotty:

A good and probably necessary suggestion.

Get yourself a chimney starter.

Fill the top with briquettes, stuff the bottom with paper, light the paper, wait for ash on the topmost briquettes. BBQ ready for food in 20 minutes. Bosh. :capnscotty:
