I've not actually used it in that location, as I cleared that bit for it before it arrived , but not the combustible bits. It seemed a bit more dangerous once that was there, so we move it on to the patio when needed. There's a tree from next door overhanging just above that too. Need to go out in the dead of night and cut it down. Those pots are full of dead plants  The whole lot needs to be redone really.

What charcoal are you guys using? The lumpwood charcoal I got from b and q is crap; loads of little shards that fall through the charcoal grate.

Lumpwood lights quickly and is ready to cook on quickly but has uneven heat distribution as like you said comes in different sizes.

Briquettes are harder to ignite and so take a while before you can cook on but once ready distribute heat more evenly and last longer.

If you are planning on cooking a lot and/or for a while best thing to do is layer lumpwood on briquette.

I cooked rump steak on the outdoor microwave on Friday evening. I was initially sceptical it would be any good, but I followed these instructions to the letter and the results were amazing. It was strawberry floating delicious and perfectly cooked.

For medium rare:
Keep the lid down and turn all the burners to max.
Get the internal temperature up to about 280 C
Put the steak on and immediately shut the lid again. Leave for 3 minutes.
Turn over, shut lid and leave for 3 minutes.
Turn burners off, turn steaks over, shut lid and leave to rest for 4 minutes.

Absolutely amazing :datass:

Sounds awesome, did you have to use the full power 900W setting?

Got given this for father's day, full of a whole load of mouthwatering goodness that I want to try ASAP:

I tried out the coal function of my bbq for the first time on Saturday, it was nice! I'm not sure it tastes all that different to the gas side, but it seemed to cook more quickly and get a lot hotter.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I'd imagine once the heat is soaked in to those coals, it's far more concentrated and intense.

Had much better time with the charcoal tonight. Temperature got up high quickly.

Going to get a food thermometer now because I basically incinerated the chicken eye balling whether it was ready or not.

Fave bbq food is peeling one side of a banana, pushing in chocolate and covering it up again with the peeled skin. Put it on the grill while having food and wait for the chocolate and banana to melt and go all gooey. Serve hot with ice cream.

We do the melted bananas whenever we have a BBQ as well, immense stuff. Try adding rum into the equation to really take it to the next level as well! :datass:
