My local game store is running a launch event on Friday, it's a bit more expensive at £53, but I feel like I should support them. (Plus I have £20 store credit ;) )

I'm probably not going to order for now as I've spent a lot on other things recently but thanks for the pointer. I've stuck a camelcamelcamel on the Amazon listing at £40 so if it ever drops below that then I might dive in.

I find the strategy of knowing when to make a break really interesting and each time we've played it the result has been close which is nice as it keeps things competitive and keeps everyone interested.

I've also got Flash Point coming soon which I've heard good things about but haven't yet played myself.

Finally my group have finally reached the half way point of our Charterstone game having played 6 of the 12 rounds. As a first legacy game I'm finding it interesting. I find the changes each round and introduction of new elements keeps things fresh. Intriguing to see how the latter rounds develop and to see who might win as it's very difficult at the moment to establish who might be leading overall.

Flamme Rouge is great. Get the free companion app and you can run Grand Tours. Expansion is worth a look too but a bit pricey.

Flamme Rouge is great. I took it into work and played it with my colleagues at lunch and they all loved it - particularly how competitive it was watching someone make a break for the line but running out of steam and just getting pipped to the post. Will definitely check out the app. As you mentioned, the expansion is a bit pricey so might wait for a deal on that!

The Telegraph have done a Best Boardgames For Christmas list and it's... Surprisingly good. A few really rather obscure gems in there

Monopoly at number 2, one of the worst board games of all time.

strawberry float me thats a bad list. In more heartening news, my small town local sells-a-bit-of-everything-including-toys shop stocks Ticket To Ride and Catan so the good stuff is stating to get out there slowly but surely.

That's incredible
A list by someone who doesn't play boardgames, and had to remember some they'd once played for this article.

Chess

Bananagrams the only redeeming one in that list.
