I find it best to sort the cards beforehand to suit the group I'm playing with. I played after a dinner party with a group of 40+ year olds, so got rid of the more obscure American/internet memes. The 'shut up and sit down' pack has lots of uk-centric cards.

How much for Monikers? Probably can't afford it though in all honesty.

I know this is a board game thread but I'm just here to promote my mate's Kickstarter for his card game https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/co ... =user_menu

It's actually for the expansion pack but one of the pledges is for the base game too.

Sorry mate, had a busy week and completely forgot I posted here.

I’ve got the SU&SD version mentioned above from Kickstarter so it’s got that little bit of extra value to it so £30 or so seems about fair to me. I’ve not looked into postage yet but let’s just go with that.

Yeah that sounds a fair price. But sorry, I can't afford it right now. I shouldn't have even asked really as I knew I wouldn't be able to buy it from you.

I love Scythe. I think the area control games are my favourite to play, ones like Scythe, Inis, Blood Rage & Rising Sun.

The new expansion adds a long campaign mode to Scythe. We'll be running one soon so no doubt I'll let people know how it goes!

For any lovers of Codenames, Decrypto is your next purchase.

You get 4 words numbered 1-4 which your whole team knows. You then give clues to identify three of them in an order (say 4 1 3). Your team need to get your answer right. If the enemy team can crack the code they score a point. You do this until one team cracks the code twice or your team fluffs it twice.

As the game goes on, the enemy team will work out patterns of clues that match a specific number (Cheese goes with previous clues trap, whiskers and scurry) so the game is about managing the clue chains you end up making. But too obscure and your team will get it wrong.

Played Captain Sonar last night and what an experience! It's the first real time game I've played and it was so tense and exciting and each role offered something different and a fresh perspective. I could've played it all night so I can't wait to play more.

It's a long shot but I was wondering the other day if any of us board games lived close enough to hook up one day and play some games. I live in Leicester but I, as often as I can afford, make a day trip up to Nottingham to try out games in the Ludorati cafe. If anyone was interested in getting together for a day at a board game cafe like that, I'd be more than up for it. Dunno if Nottingham is close enough for anyone to consider that. Like I say, it's probably a long shot but just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

My friends and I started our Gloomhaven campaign last night. And we got owned. Managing your cards is so key to the game, and we spaffed away too many one use abilities in the first room.

We're trying again tonight.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Did you all chip in and buy it together?

Had our first game of Scythe last week and I really enjoyed it. It was a really close game in the top 3 so I'm looking forward to giving it another go with a proper strategy in mind. Seemed a bit slower than I expected but that was probably just because it was the first time playing for all 4 of us.

Hoping to play Pandemic Legacy tonight. Just about to start August.

Imperial Assault

Ended our campaign today - 3 missions. Rebels won them all with some lucky rolls and skilled planning (the campaign is weighted strongly to Imperials)

We did well with everyone playing a role (and we got to pilot an ATST and kill Darth Vadar!)

Fun game but I really can't see how you'd do it without Gideon/Diala.

We played the full base campaign with Garkhaan, Diala, Loku (from the Hoth expansion) and Jyn. By the end, Garkhaan was completely unstoppable and as the Imperial player I had to rely on stuns to stop him, Loku could pick off Elite Stormtroopers from the other side of the map, Jyn could murder anyone who tried to attack her with her preemptive strike and Diala...was just sort of there. Maybe the players didn't get her build right but she was never my priority on the board.

ALSO

Does anyone have experience with detective games? I've long been interesting in Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective but what's really piqued my interest is the terribly titled Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game. Looks really interesting!

I absolutely love the second Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective game and also Watson and Holmes. We haven't finished them yet but they make an interesting change to our normal gaming evenings and you can't beat those "eureka!" moments. But it's also equally frustrating when you miss something important that you really should have picked up on, although I think the few times this has happened with us, it's been down to the players rather than the game. I'd highly recommend them either way.

Pandemic Legacy

Just lost our first game in August. That's our third loss in a row now. :fp:

It was so close as well, as is the way with this game. We would have won if we'd survived that one outbreak but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Feeling confident about our next attempt at least!
