Looking for some recommendations

Me and my gf are looking for good co-op board games to play, ones that involve puzzle solving if possible.

We see a Sherlock Holmes one in Waterstones
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gibsons-5012269003291-221B-Baker-Street/dp/B00067U6R4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1YK8NCF0PXU4S&dchild=1&keywords=sherlock+holmes+board+game&qid=1627152085&sprefix=Sherlock+Holmes+bo%2Caps%2C178&sr=8-2

Anyone if this is is any good? Or anyone have any recommendations?

Check out the Consulting Detective series of games instead. Much better.

Micro Macro Crime City also might be worth a look. It just won Spiel Das Jahre.

Chronicles of Crime is good fun but I find it too easy.

That one in the middle seems to be in French on Amazon? Is it not available in English?

I’ll take a look at the others, cheers!

I would suggest avoiding 221B Baker Street, it's just not very good.

Detective is also meant to be quite good in the vain of those of games Zilnad recommended.

I reckon your best bet for a good co-op puzzle would be one of the escape room series, like Exit, Unlock, and Adventure Games. Only drawback is that they can only be played the once.

The three packs of those escape room games are half price in John Lewis at the moment.

Can vouch for those, I've got the Egypt and the island one. We've only played the Egypt on (haven't finished it yet) but it's been great to sit together with a pen and paper, trying to work the puzzle out.

My wife bought us the "Cabin" Exit game for Christmas and it was an excellent way to spend an hour. Really fun to play together and you've reminded me I need to get another one.

Just to say I had a lovely time at UKGE last week. Limited myself to picking up one game, which was Calico. Review here if you like abstract tile laying games with cute aesthetics.

After lockdown I had I believe 23 completely unplayed games in my collection, so we have taken it upon ourselves to try and play one of these each week at random. Gonna get to the end and see which was my favourite one, because the best of tehse 23 games has to be one hell of a good game. Done 6 so far, 17 to go.

It's a bad game so I'd implore anyone interested to not bother with it.

What games?

My wife and I are still thoroughly enjoying Jaws of the Lion and it's been our go to game for the past few weekends.

So far we have played Streetfighter: The Minatures Game, Master Word, Camel Up Supercup, Spicy, Fox In The Forest Duet and Quacks (although thats a bit of a cheat, we've already played it).

I'll allow that cheat, considering how good Quacks is.

How is Fox In The Forest? I always liked the look of the game but wasn't sure I had the right group for it. A Duel version is a much more appealing prospect.

Its a really good 2 player trick taking game. If you like trick taking games, you'll enjoy it.

Played a couple of games of Blitzkrieg today and really, really enjoyed it.

Fast paced, tile based tug-of-war game with a WW2 theme. My wife beat me twice which I was pretty happy about so I think we'll be playing it quite often along with our other quick two-player games.

Really easy to teach and pick up with a lot of fun rules that really translate well into the theme.

I picked up Jaws of the Lion a few weeks ago as I thought it might be a better place to start instead of the main game. How long should I set aside to open it for the first time (punch out all the pieces etc) and have a go at a scenario?

A long time.

Honestly I'd get the pieces punched out, sorted and bagged way before your first session.

I'd say you could go from opened box to completing the first scenario within a couple of hours, depending on how many people you're playing with.

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking to try it on my own just to get a feel for it. I did the same with the main game and was going to continue with it but read that JotL is better if played before the main game. I'll see how I get on when I next have a couple of hours free.
