My girlfriend and I are starting to amass a little collection. We’ve got

Exploding Kittens with Imploding Kittens expansion
Ticket to Ride
Bears versus Babies
Codewords
Catan

Any suggestions for something simple and fast along the Exploding Kittens lines?

Yeah it's awesome. Had considered picking up one of the other ones in the series but was a bit worried they'd be too similar. Has anyone had any experience playing Desert or Sky?

We have forbidden desert. Only played it once so far but really enjoyed it.

Just ordered Dice Throne. I hadn't heard of it until a recent episode of Watch it Played. It's been through Kickstarter, so should have my copy within a few weeks. It's a Battle-Yahtzee game, or "Street Fighter meets King of Toyko". Looks gorgeous!

Has anyone played/bought Azul? My wife is after suggestions for my birthday and I quite like the look of it but unsure how complicated it is.

It's simple enough for beginners, but complex enough for experienced players to not get bored of it. Only takes about half hour, plenty of strategy, but still fun to play if you don't understand the strategy all that well (according to my Mum anyway)

Bought Eldritch Horror for my wife's birthday, hopefully she likes it, I read the game can take a good 2 to 3 hours to play.

I’ve never been able to get on with eithe Eldritch or Arkham Horror. Find them both to be quite boring and I’m waiting for it to be over whenever I’ve played them.

Had both Treasure Island & Wingspan arrive yesterday which I’m pumped to try!

As far as I remember, one of either Eldritch or Arkham Horror was almost unplayable these days due to the crunchiness of its systems. The other I played and really enjoyed.

FAKE EDIT: Eldritch is the updated Arkham and yes, very fun.

Been getting a regular boardgames thing going at work and its gone pretty well, we play most Wednesdays at lunch time and weve started to stay one evening a month, order in some pizza and play some bigger games. Popular ones right now are Colt Express, Camel Up and Codenames, its so good to have a regular group to be gaming with again.

Played SW: Rebellion at the weekend again. Oddest game we'd played for a while.

A lone storm trooper stumbled across the Rebel base on Turn 4....which the enemy had left no ground troops on (he made a silly error) but it had an Ion Canon.

Both sides has units, so battle commences (Structures are automatically destroyed at the end of a combat round, if their own rolled no dice that turn).

The Ion Canon can do nothing to the Stormtrooper...but tactics cards can hurt it! Storm trooper isn't able to heal....Ion Canon wins the battle. :fp:

(We had 5 more turns of him using meager forces to hold off my forces, me desperately trying to get forces in place to attack a base I was unprepared for - while taking over the galaxy to lock down his relocation options)

Good times.

So we mostly ignored your suggestions and went with a cheaper option so I could divert some budget into my Lego Ford Mustang pot. Went with Kingdomino and it's a neat little game. Really easy to pick up, doesn't take long and has some good strategy too. I'd definitely recommend it.

Been playing a few newer games recently with friends.

Magic Maze - Fun game and quite unlike anything I've played before. The co-operative nature combined with the restrictions on communication make for some hilarious interactions. I like the dynamic generation of the maze which I'd think helps keep the game fresh.

Above and Below - Really enjoyed this with its combination of resource management/town building and adventuring/story. There seems to be a good amount of strategy to the game, although I did find reputation was probably lower impact on the overall score than I'd have expected.

The Mind - Simple to pick up but fairly complex once you get into it. Knowing when to use your throwing star cards is probably a skill that one would develop over time. We never got beyond round 5.

Small World - Interesting game. Might have been a little more cut-throat if we'd played the correct board size (we played 4 people on the 5 player board - meaning more territory so less fighting over it). There are definitely some races and powers that are superior to others and I think learning these and the best combinations would give the game good replay-ability.

Got into the Arkham Horror card game in a big way recently. With so many different character choices I keep meaning to try and branch out and try the seeker or mystic classes but then I end up playing as Jenny every single time.
