7 Wonders Duel is absolutely excellent by the way. It's one of our most played games and we're perfectly matched at 50/50 wins each.

I still have the first main expansion set sitting there unopened as a Christmas present from a couple of years ago, which I feel guilty about...

It is suuuuuper hard. I found the base campaign to be a good deal tougher than a lot of the exansions, especially that second mission!

With the second chapter of the base campaign, it's best to resign if you've got a reasonable amount of clues rather than timing out. A good general rule for the game.

From memory we just got wrecked in the second turn.

Think I might settle on something like Wingspan.

Wingspan is great. One of the only games I’ve bought every expansion too.

I did see there’s a new Christmas themed Patchwork out if you want something for the time of year!

Does anyone have Marvel Champions? I'm thinking of getting it for my 10 year old as a 1 and 2 player game. How comprehensive is the base pack?

Another vote here for Wingspan. It's a cracking game and another one that we play a lot.

Can't comment on Marvel Champions though, sorry.

I've got it and all the expansions. It's a really great two player game. I think the base set would be a great starting point for your lad.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Ended up getting the digital version of Wingspan as it has local multiplayer, is a quarter of the price, and is actually available to buy.

Went a bit overboard and ordered Imperial Struggle, Azul, 7 Wonders: Duel, and Undaunted: North Africa. I’m eyeing up Arboretum, The Castles of Burgundy, and Grand Austrian Hotel as well. Maybe even Mage Knight and Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion when they're available at some point next year.

Justifying it with having not bought any board game for over three years prior to this. :shifty:

Arboretum's a devilish little puzzle. Great game.

Regarding Wingspan, I passed on buying it a while ago - a friend of mine confirmed what I was thinking after seeing some balanced reviews; that it was pleasant enough with great artwork but there's very little interaction between the players in terms of game mechanics, it's mostly about doing your own thing then working out the scores at the end.

Guess it all depends on what you're into, some people like that style. I'm more into reacting to/influencing other players directly in board games, so it probably isn't a great fit for me.

That's one of the reasons my wife and I like it, I think. It's a great have to chill out with on a Sunday afternoon together. I like to save the proper devious stuff for my friends.

strawberry float, this is a good game isnt it? I can see why it has been popular for...*checks Wikipedia*...1500 years

Anyone played Star Wars: Outer Rim? Is it any good with just two players?

Thinking of getting either that or Rebellion, but after getting into The Mandalorian I think something based more around those kinds of stories rather than the main movies like you'd typically see might be more interesting.

I really didn’t like playing Outer Rim at Expo in 2019

Rebellion is amazing, if a time sink

Outer Rim is...fine? Played it once with a friend over TTS and never went back to the 2/3rds done game we started.

Rebellion on the other hand is indeed fantastic, and the asymmetric design means there's plenty of room for replay and experimenting with mechanics.

That's me convinced then! I had heard that people think the combat in Rebellion is the weak point, fixed by the expansion, with the overall cost of the package therefore putting me off a bit.

Glad to hear it is very replayable then.

I'd second that. I have everything released so far and really like the game. I mostly play solo, as none of the family like board games. Works great for 1 or 2 players, or 1 player playing 2 characters.

I've heard 3-4 players just drags it out too much though.

VERY VERY replayable.

The expansion made combat better, but it's still one of the weakest points.

My wife got me one of those Exit card games for Christmas which we just spent the afternoon playing and I loved it.

It really is an escape room on your table and it's awesome. Really surprised me and I'd recommend it to anyone.
