Yeah, it'd be good if more multiplayer games offered crossplay in the future!

Ok, so while we have one more week with our Xbox buddies we will be returning to the world of PC games next week.

I'm happy to announce that I have the next game up and running successfully (So far, still need to do a few more tests).

So what game shall we be playing next.

The legendary, the infamous, Daikatana.

I've never played beyond the first level of this game, but the DM is meant to be decent from what I've heard so I look forward to testing it out.

Installation files and instructions will be shared closer to the time as usual.

Just a reminder to check your Halo installations are working if you're on PC gamepass.
Mines has decided it doesn't want to sign in to XBL. :dread:

I miss normal PC games. :(

This is where I reveal I've been trying to figure out how to get PS2 games online so we can play Timesplitters via system link.

I'm almost there with it. It's fiddly as strawberry float but I have managed to get a LAN game running at home over two systems. Just need to work out how to make the tunnelling software work properly.

EDIT: Drumstick had asked about maybe doing Timesplitters when I was in Coras Perfect Dark stream the other night and I said I'd look into it.

Your efforts to get these games working for us are very much appreciated Devlin! :toot:

Timesplitters would be really interesting to revisit. Played a load of splitscreen MP on Timesplitters 2 back in the day, but haven't touched it since about 2005!

Thanks man. I'm enjoying the researching almost as much as the games themselves.

Yeah Timesplitters 2 was the one I played a lot of. Only ever got a handful of MP games on the go though.

The upside to getting it working will be that it should easily (In theory) apply to other PS2 games with system link functionality. That would potentially include Outrun: C2C, the Splinter Cell games, both Battlefronts and the SOCOM games. Oh and Gran Turismo 4 has stuff too.
PS2 System Link games
I've not even looked at the games that had built-in online modes yet which would include stuff like Metal Gear Online.

Though most of these are moving away from the FPS focus I have here. But it's nice to have options.

EDIT: To be clear I'm talking about playing them through the PCSX2 emulator, not actual hardware (Though that is possible too).

Who is this guy Dai and why does he have a Katana? Welsh people don't normally have Katanas.

So bizarre that the Halo games have proven to be this problematic for us!

That said overall it was pretty smooth tonight - most people got in to the game easily enough and we didn't have any of the issues with the games not starting for no apparent reason.

Really enjoyed that session again, Halo 2 is a lot more fun than I remember! :toot:

Yeah good games tonight folks. Shame I had to go a bit earlier than I'd have liked.

We'll definitely come back to Halo at some point I think. Whether that's Halo 3, or just a re-visit of 2 it will return.

Daikatana up next! I'll get the instructions up for the weekend!

Thanks for trying to make the last few games interesting for me, it's appreciated. Saying that, as you could probably tell, I don't think halo is my kind of fps. It's just too slow, and I can't understand why nobody ever dies when I shoot at them for a sustained period, yet I just die in a split second. The last map we did that showed the kill cam just backed this up, I walk in to someone's view and they just insta kill me, yet when I shoot someone nothing ever seems to happen. My only kills on that map were from either fluking the last killing blow from afar between two people fighting it out, or from getting someone with a grenade.

There's probably a few things going on that are relevant to Halo but have not been a factor in most of the other things we have done so far.

Headshots are a thing in Halo - shooting someone in the head will take them down quicker. For some weapons this can make a huge difference. Battle rifle to the head will kill someone very quickly for example

Shield management is hugely important - you have a shield which recharges after a few seconds whilst you are not taking damage. It can take quite a few hits before you go down, so you want to try and maximise your shield level before any engagement - chances are if people are taking you down quick it's because you are low on shields!

... :o . Wow, Daikatana! I recall the furore when it launched... it seemed to have a rep as being "a bad game" but some folk felt that it was decent? It'll be interesting to see what you guys think if it!
