Series 7 was pants aside from the odd episode, but I thought series 8 was really good overall, apart from the ill advised cliff hanger.

No.... leave it be, some things just don't need to be touched you useless banana splits!

It'd be nice, but it might be gooseberry fool.

The main reason 7 was terrible was the change in format. They stopped doing it infront of a live studio audience and prerecorded everything to give it a more movie-like feel. IMO that move backfired dramatically when the swanky new CGI and production values vastly outshone the awful scripts and badly thought out new characters. 8 moved back into the studio and was all the better for it, but still, some of the episodes were awful (Krytie TV anyone?)

The whole point of the show is the fact that its just 4 people on a space ship and what they get up to. The last few series got away from this and none of the extra characters added anything worthwhile.

If this is true, it could either be great, or terrible.

Here's hoping for the greatness. Red Dwarf was amazing.

The greatest TV show ever made.

Series 7 was admittedly a big dip, even the cast themselves said that although it looked great, the cast didn't have their game raised by the audience - the return of the live audience in 8 showed though, as the quality improved dramatically.

I have been dying to find out how it all ends, I really hope this is true.

It clearly needs a live studio audience.

They should leave it alone. Remeber how they brought back those specials of Only Fools and it turned out rubbish?

I was just watching season six last night. I don't care how bad it could turn out to be, if this happens I'll love it anyway.

The rot set in as early as series 3. The first two were great, 3 & 4 were very good, 5 was decent and 6 was the point it went crap.

Every series from 3 onwards, relied more and more on in-jokes, use of the word "smeg" and less on amusing takes on sci fi staples.

why does everyone love series 8? it was absolute GASH. It was in my eyes no longer red dwarf. The characters became annoying, the plot was porridge in space, the storylines were rubbish. The 3 part opener was total cack and boring (mind u the kryten psychitrist sketch made me laugh) the whole dinosaur nonsense it was pure garbage. Rimmer was quite good in series 8 but overall it hated it. Series 7 had some good episodes, the time travel dallas episode was brilliant, and who could forget the rimmer munchkin song!

series 1 -6 were untouchable in my opinion (even the slightly generic series 4 and 5)
