She really hasn't been very well for a while now. She suffered a brain aneurysm a while back. She's 72. She was very much part of the 70s 'Laurel Canyon' scene (Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Eagles, etc) in California. Many drugs were taken. In Mitchell's case she was a very heavy smoker all her life, too.
