Maybe this is just me, but can I also point out that it's ok to resign? I've played a few friends who seem to think it's rude to resign and you should always allow your opponent the chance to finish a checkmate, but I really don't agree with that. By all means play on if you want to but it isn't rude to resign if you feel your position is hopeless. Except maybe if you've blundered mate in 1, then you have to suck it up.

Yep, agreed. No point in dragging a game out for the sake of it.

I think that's only at higher levels than us.

I tell my friends it is always good etiquette for them to resign when playing me at chess, but especially when they are otherwise about to win
