I downloaded the Chess.com app and the lessons have really helped me (hit the weekly limit yesterday which was a bit annoying). I understand a bit about controlling the centre and opening up diagonals, and have managed to engineer a few pawn promotions against one of their bots. Also managed to salvage a stalemate from a terrible game which I had no idea about this time last week. A lot of my moves are blunders and I don't always understand why yet!

I'm up for a tournament if someone wants an effective bye to the next round!

What are people's thoughts on a format?

I was thinking we do 10 minute matches and give people 48 hour windows to arrange a game between themselves.

Alternatively, you can allow max time per turn and give people 48 hours to complete a game so they can take it at their own pace?

I'm happy with either really. Timed games are more stressful and might be more complicated to arrange but equally there is a benefit to getting it over with in one go. Having said that, have you thought about a best of 3 format to mitigate the slight white advantage? Or are we all too pants to worry about that? :slol:

Also, round robin or knock out style?

Round robin might be a bit more interesting. Knockouts would just mean it's over in no time. Having said that, I'm cool with either.

I think numbers permitting, round robin will be preferable so everyone can play everyone.

Rather than best of 3, we could just do 2 matches versus everyone, with one black and one white? Then you get 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

Sounds good to me. Although usual chess scoring would be 1 for a win and 0.5 for a draw, none of this football nonsense. :P

Yeah, but I think we should encourage more attacking chess :datass:

I'd be up for max time per turn instead of a 10 minute match but happy to go with the majority.

Seeing as I'm now playing far more matches than I thought I would I'd go for ten minutes per game!

Might join in, would prefer like 48hrs to finish a game rather than dedicating a 10 minute slot
