48 hours! I would burst waiting that long for a move.

48 hours per move would take way too long, I think if we go down that route then we set up daily games (so technically you get 24 hours per move) but just say that everyone has to finish the game within 48 hours. Might be hard to police but it saves the hassle of having to arrange a specific time for a 10 minute game.

It wouldn't be 48 hours a move

48 hours to complete the game I meant, but within that period you could take your time on moves etc.

Going to put a deadline of the end of Friday on sign ups and we can then sort the format on weekend and look to start next week.

I think a format where everyone plays everyone black and white is fairest.

I'm leaning towards 48 hours for both matches to be completed. With number of participants will mean it lasts over a few weeks.

Are people happy to be engaged for that long or would they like some breaks built in?

I'm thinking:

Monday-Tuesday MATCH 1/2 V OPPONENT 1
Wednesday-Thursday MATCH 1/2 V OPPONENT 2
Friday-Saturday MATCH 1/2 V OPPONENENT
Sunday-REST DAY

And repeat until fixtures completed.

I will set up a Google Docs to record results.

Sounds good to me. There's still a question of whether we're doing 2 x 10 minute rapid games in that 48 hours or two daily games (which would be more flexible) and just asking people to make sure they move quickly enough to finish the games within 48 hours.

If anyone wants to play a 30 minute game (30 minutes per person), let me know but I don't think I can commit to these super long games.

Should be less commitment really, unless you intend to spend hours agonising over each move.

CHESS TOURNAMENT

Okay, if everyone is happy, I suggest we start Wednesday 14th with the following fixtures:

Wednesday 14th to Thursday 15th
Tomous (TomChess1912) v Pancake (Jonty-Bonty)
Blue Eyes (Jimby2) v Cuttooth (quilatoo)
Cora (username pending) v Dowbocop (Dowbocop)
Super Dragon 64 (Super_Dragon_64 v Curls - (huw22081)

Friday 16th to Saturday 17th
Pancake (Jonty-Bonty) v Blue Eyes (Jimby2)
Cuttooth (quilatoo) v Cora (username pending)
Dowbocop (Dowbocop) v Super Dragon 64 (Super_Dragon_64)
Curls - (huw22081) v Hypes - (Hypes1)

As we have an odd number of participants, each round of fixtures will have one person sitting out.

I will do a proper fixture list for the full course soon but I wanted to get setup for the first rounds.

Rules
> Everyone plays their opponent twice within the 2 day period, alternating black and white.

> 1 point for a win, 1/2 point for a draw

> Use the daily timer format, but both players need to use best efforts to ensure both games are completed. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

> All games on Chess.com app for convenience-I suggest everyone adds their opponent as a friend.

> Submit scores in the thread and I will post the updated league table after each round of fixtures

> As a note as it can sometimes catch people out, if the same board position is reached 3 times (and those 3 times can be at any point in the game), a stalemate is forced. And it is not bad sportsmanship to force a draw if you can because you are in a losing position!

Do we have a rule for who plays White and who plays Black?
