Opt-out organ donation.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43168524

Sorry, I currently carry a donor card, but if this is brought in I will opt out, fed up being told what to do.

So the government thinks it has the right to help itself to your organs when you die, unless you explicitly say no. To hell with the wishes of your relatives.

Have a rethink, you totalitarian monsters.

You don't get to choose who gets your organs. You think a child or family man might get them ... but when you see someone like billionaire David Rockefeller being given his 7th heart at the age of 101, whilst deserving causes miss out, I'd rather mine was left in my chest to rot. Your organs will be on the open market.

My body does not belong to the state.

Should they be able to farm my organs in my lifetime?

A kidney here or a lung there because we only need one of them?

I am not 'allowed' to earn money without the state taking some of my earnings regardless of whether I choose to use any of their services (I don't) but I'll be damned if they will now steal my eyes on death without my consent.

I'm on the organ donor register. To join was a very conscious decision to join, and my family is aware and so hopefully will follow my wishes if/when it comes to it.

But, my body belongs to me not to the state. It's my decision. If the state presumes it has the right to take my organs then I will resist that theft, I will opt out of the new system.

My body, my choice.

It's all well and good but when are these MP's going to act on MGM, the child abuse going on right under their noses. Everyday, young men are being brutalised by the NHS itself. Victims of circumcision need urgent protection from this barbaric practice. Male Genital Mutilation is a crime being committed in broad daylight and the country cannot consider itself civilised while it continues.

I want to donate I opt in, yeah i don't have a use for it when i'm dead but it's mine. If the law is changed i'll be opting put on day one and will suggest other people do the same.

I reserve the right to refuse a heart from a hard hearted Brexitear.

A referendum is needed..........

Has anyone considered the effect of many many more organ transplants on NHS budgets?

A great idea, but ..........

If this becomes law, how will certain ethnic groups react to this? This needs to be discussed because if certain ethnic groups may choose to opt out. Then surely the same group should be back of the queue when organs are available.

so long as i can specify what groups of people i am happy to receive my bits, that's fine. Religious types need not apply.

You are going to be dead. Better your organs be harvested for someone who needs them.

Sony adds "rumble" to phones.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43179448

Why do they insist on calling these new devices phones? I am sure 99% of things done on them do not involve making a telephone call.

Yet another "feature" I'll have dig deep into the control panel to turn off. Why can they design these machines for adults?

Yet another opportunity presents itself for "Generation X" to annoy their fellow train/plane/bus passengers...

Trust me...nobody thinks your phone is cool...guarantee you most people will just wonder why you didn't buy a house instead with the money you spent on your phone!

Wow, I'm appalled by the sheer number of people who are void of knowledge relating to 4k phone screen/display technology. Some people just don't want to become educated or accept superior technology. Thankfully I possess an open mind and have a voracious appetite for knowledge and the absolute truth. God bless our freedom. Amen

we'll that sounds fantastic, it'll go with my vibrating bowl I have for hot soup and my spiky toilet seat, all I've wanted for years is for my movies to vibrate, just like people do in real life.

Nothing more annoying when playing a video game is when there are lots of explosions and the controller just vibrates in your hand. The same will come of this when watching action movies, no doubt.

Goodness, it vibrates in the users hand, So do I.

Sorry Preezy, no Brexit comments today

So it's being sold on the basis that it's a vibrator

Toys R Us goes into administration.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43210854

Its all Brexits fault.
How much did the CEO and directors get?

Did the Beeb mention Brexit?

Go on beeb..go-on!

You know you want to!

Reading these comments it appears that most don't know that this is an AMERICAN company. In the USA Toys R Us are in protection while the company is restructured. Its nothing to do with anything other than the fact the parent US company has no money.

Hang on. He let's his 4yo have access to YouTube?

Where are all the shoplifters going to get their presents for their children now? BREXIT has a lot to answer for.

Reason #6
Recently, Hollywood has been busy insulting its core audience with SJW politics, not entertainment. The most recent manifestation, the Last Jedi in the Star Wars series, seriously underperformed. As a knock-on result, Star Wars toy sales have completely tanked which means retailers may go.

Same thing with Marvel comics, which is belatedly trying to reverse. Politics has consequences

That is actually a valid point, there are quite a few videos online (albeit mainly from whiny alt-righters by the looks of it) showing these big toy stores with shelves that are packed to the brim with Star Wars toys that just aren't selling. Ignoring the political or ideological reasons behind it, the actual numbers show that these toy stores are buying loads of toys from Disney/Mattell etc but then can't shift them.

At the start of February, The Last Jedi had taken $1.32billion. That's not underperforming.

Only melters are not buying Star Wars toys because of female or black characters.

Other than that, good point Preezy. ;)

I was talking about the toys, not the box office takings. Who are the largest purchasers of Star Wars toys? It's not collectors, they make up a tiny amount. It's parents. Parents buy what their kids ask for. If kids wanted Rey and Rose toys then they'd be flying off the shelves, but they're not. Kids want Luke, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren.

Anyway I feel this is slipping off the point - Star Wars toys in general aren't selling well at all, and it's killing toy stores.

The alt-righter you were agreeing with said that The Last Jedi underperformed and that's why toy sales were down. That wasn't true.

Are Star Wars toys sales down because of girls and black people, or are sales just down anyway as kids want iPads instead?

I must've misread the comment originally, my mind immediately recalled the toy situation and that's what I was on about from the start. I completely agree TLJ didn't underperform, even if I disliked it.

Moggy wrote:Are Star Wars toys sales down because of girls and black people, or are sales just down anyway as kids want iPads instead?

Marvel toys are still selling well so it's not that kids don't want toys these days. Obviously the prevalence of tablets and phones and videogames has dented physical toys but that's nothing new. Star Wars toys in particular though are underselling. I also think Marvel toys sell better because they have a far larger stable of characters to draw from, whereas with Star Wars it's either the original trilogy or the new trilogy, that's it. They don't have this wide pantheon of characters (that the general public is aware of anyway, I know they have an extended universe), and there's a definitely staleness there in my opinion.

I don't think people aren't buying Finn toys because he's black, but because he's a rubbish character from an average film. I haven't seen Black Panther toy sale figures but I'm sure they're performing well because he's a cool character, doesn't matter what his skin colour is. Female characters aimed at boys though rarely sell well. People aren't buying Rey and Rose toys because boys don't want to play with them. Young girls aren't buying them either though so again it's probably not even an issue of gender but of character strength. Rey is a boring character, Rose is a painfully boring character. You can even buy a Princess Leia figure from TLJ, just her in her old lady robes. What kid (boy or girl) wants to play with a figure of an old woman that's had too much botox and drugs? They're making toys without checking first if they'd even sell.

Realise this has all totally blown your rule of no discussion in the Comments thread but strawberry float it, it's an interesting discussion and something I've kept my eye on as a relatively new parent - my kids are going to be asking me to spend money on all this gooseberry fool (although more likely Marvel than Star Wars ;) ) in the near future!

I will ban you for this outrage. :x

I only try and ban discussion of the stories in here as it would just overwhelm the thread otherwise. Plus Karl likes new threads so if you want to discuss any of the stories then make a new thread and I will fight you in there. ;)

Edit: by the way your post was a very long winded way of saying that kids prefer Marvel to Star Wars. ;)

Old notes, new coins.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43210251

At least Winston Churchill - the psychopath and Darwin - the aethiest Jesus are no longer on our notes.

This may wined people up into a rage but.... think about first.

The Queen should feature on all currency

B should of been for Brexit as its the most important thing to happen over the last few years, If we do finally make a clean break from the wicked EU empire the Brexit commemoration coin should be struck in gold, if we somehow stay then a tin plate commiseration coin should be struct

Well if this isn't a conspiracy by the Belgian government to stop us leaving the EU then I don't know what is. The Belgians are basically stopping Britain leaving the Europe by forcing us down the route of a new 10p coin. Us Brits fall for it everytime. It's about time somebody said to Belgium "stop giving us new currency"

Shouldn't these be English images?

When we leave the EU and we break up the UK - Scotland and Wales can have their own coinage.

at least we are not printing EUROS for the british people.
thank goodness for BREXIT.

I'll certainly miss the old gender equal £10. The new sexist £10, featuring only women is a real setback for equality

As someone who identifies as a female elephant, I demand more representation for my mentally ill delusions on banknotes despite not ever having contributed to the nation in any meaningful war.

If you criticse me I have a whole slew of meaningless buzzwords such as 'racist, sexist & transphobe' to throw at you and the media are in bed with my delusions and offer me far more space than deserved.

No such thing as ‘British Life’ because the nations within the UK have very different cultures and history.

Scotland is a very different country to rUK.
Scotland voted to remain in the EU.

Let’s face it, the ancient Britons were in fact very different to the Picts, Celts and Hibernians. The Roman Empire spoke of Britain being England ... not Scotland.

Scots bank notes much better!!!

"diverse coins" they look like esso medallions.
we want the queens head on one side and union jack on the other.
NOTHING WRONG WITH TRADITION.

These "coins" fail every test of coinage. They are not distinctive or memorable, so one can't immediately tell real coins from fake ones or simple tokens. They have no denomination on them so foreigners can't tell what they are worth. They are not timeless symbols of our country but gimmicky ideas. The Queen is meant to "approve" all new coins - she must have wept inwardly at these.

Still never been anyone who is not white on a banknote. They forced a woman on but Jane Austin is hardly up there with Caucer, Wordsworth or Thomas Hardy, Byron or Coleridge.

But not a single 'BAME' person ever. And yet we're supposed to believe they contribute so much. Name one who deserves to be on a banknote.
