A Netflix film gets booed at Cannes.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39972987The booing had nothing to do with Netflix. It was because the film did not contain any perversion, abhorrent behavior, bizarre dialogue, did not present any dysfunctional relationships as normal, or promote the idea of irreversible, man made global warming (sometimes referred to as climate change during periods of global cooling). Just a nice story about a girl and her pet pig. Not sick enough.
"Dear White People". Netflix is racist.
I don't even know why this Netflix crap is even showing at the most prestigious film festival in the world anyway.
Surely there's Sundance or some hillbilly American festival it can stage-crash. Instead of trying to steal some credibility in a festival where films by real auteurs are shown.
Let me know when Netflix starts producing the works of auteurs the calibre of Von Trier, Pasolini, Godard, Truffaut, Bresson, Demy, Loach, Kieslowski, Noé, Dolan, Zvyagintsev, etc instead of Hollywood guff
You cheapskate phillistine homebodies who've never even see a film that's been nominated for a Palme D'or can keep your Netflix films showcased by PC monitor & served with microwave popcorn
A bunch of pretentious connoisseurs with their heads up their backsides. This isn't exclusively a French or film appreciation thing, you get it in all circles e.g. 'real' ale drinkers, indie video games, real music people baulking at Simon Cowell, foodies etc etc etc. The question is, why is this news?
They should make a movie for Cannes about men wrongly convicted or accused of rape or "historical abuse" where the only evidence is from old "victims" whose stories about their "breast touched" 50 years ago are disputed by everyone, including their own family. It seems the prosecution service is unwilling, or unable, to concentrate on real cases. The Rolf case is staggering.
These luvvy lefties are causing mayhem throughout the world, be it areas of so-called entertainment or politics.
Glad I don't have to watch, listen, or pay for some of their output.
A nastier bunch of clubbies would be hard to find.
Having seen some of the utter guff that gets lauded at Cannes by the uber luvvies and art snobs that litter these places, I actually take their snub as an endorsement of how good Netflix is..
2 hours of a woman gazing longingly from a window while smoking endless cigarettes is not my (nor most people's) idea of entertainment.
You see, the French have low standards.
Like liberals, they bury their heads in the sand and claim they're the best, all the while dictating to others (and they become annoyed.)
Some are just born to undermine themselves, and that is that - there's nothing you can do to help them.
some ppl are just plain rude & obnoxious.
if u don't like something just leave quietly without disturbing others.
it the polite thing to do.
then ask for a refund.
same with the leaders debate - those obnoxious women interrupting other speakers prevents the audience enjoying and getting information.
shame on the bbc's poor comparing - each speaker shud get equal time
Liberal film critics...whatever next.
Go give your country, it's borders, and your freedoms to the Germans - you can cheer them along instead (like in the good old days.)
Oh no, I'm criticising the critics....
...is this allowed?
Yawn - another example of French protectionism. And typifying how in many EU countries like France self interests are paramount but if we try to adopt this approach in the UK we are pilloried as arrogant and selfish. Comes down to the slant of the media really.
Luvvies just protecting luvvies again then. The only surprise is that they didn't blame Trump.
