Half my office seem to have done so. We're swamped.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It seems that literally everyone at my place has picked something up at least once over the last month, so I suppose it was only a matter of time. I was woken up by my own coughing reflex because I was suffocating on phlegm :dread: just spewed up a huge amount of the stuff, which was actually pretty satisfying.

It's going around our place too. I had the worst of it on Saturday so hopefully I'm in the clear... After all, I wouldn't want OB cautioning me for excessive sickness.

About to hand in my notice and go 'freelance'. Slight fear over irregular income but the wages are much higher so I shouldn't have to work so much. I've got a couple positions to work ad-hoc and a little bit of savings incase of the worst.

Feeling so economically unviable right now :datass:.

I'm sick but won't be calling off, because here, when you take a sick day, they take it out of your allotted holiday days for the year, because their sick leave and vacation days are all lumped into one.

If they want to send me home early, on the other hand... :shifty:

They basically punish us for calling in sick by thieving our vacation days, as if we could control that in any way.

"We rely on you and expect you to be here no matter what," they say, "Calling in sick is your decision, so you have to accept the consequences."

... . It sounds like some kind of punishment rather than a place of work! Still, I guess the reverse is "Treating your employees like trash is your decision, so you have to accept the consequences." :toot: .

Yes, and that's the prevailing attitude here. The benefits package is fairly good compared to other employers in the area, though, and that's what they use to try to keep employees from quitting. Held hostage by good insurance, ain't it a kick in the head. :dread:

Not including public holidays, what is the total allowance of leave + sick days? If you are not sick, do you get to use the unused sick days as leave?

Yes?

Not sure if I posted in here or not. I've been in a new job for 11months now, pre xmas review went really well, directors are pleased etc. Holiday pay and bonuses etc are incredible.

The Christmas just gone was excellent, we got 2 weeks off all paid and I got to enjoy it and relax. The Christmas of 2016 was a complete nightmare. I was under contract for Dublin Airport and a month before christmas and 1 week after buying my house I was informed I was being let go, the hardest part was it was done when they where calling staff on contract in to be made permanents so when I was called in I thought I was going up in my career, you can imagine the shock.

After the initial dismay I stood up and told the Boss I'm better than this, and also informed him "well he got his way in the end". Basically I worked under a guy who I just didn't get on with, I worked for 10 years in the dublin airport, single hand idly drawing and finishing contracts from 100k up to 7million in cost. A year previous I had enough of his bullying so drew up a list of things he had done or said, when I was in late after daughter was brough to hospital for a suspected broken arm it "wasn't good enough" when I complained about anything he reminded me that he has a drawer full of CV's, he openly asked if I could do cad in front of entire office several times and I'd have to bring him to an empty office to ask what his problem was, and his problem was nonsense, nothing tangible, not drawing being late, no delays on projects just my 'attitude and enthusiasm" things I can't disprove and can't argue against. When another personal problem with the mental health of a relative meant I was late a couple of days for about 4 weeks he said "is XXXX no f**king better yet?" I wrote up this list and sent it to boss above my boss and he said he'd have a word, I said I didn't want him to, just wanted it on record, a few months later I was fired.

The huge silver lining was that my missus never panicked and believed in me, I had 3 months to find another job and after my second interview I was offered a job here and jumped at it. I'm in an excellent job now and can't believe I put up with so much S*** in my last job. I miss my old work mates but honestly, this is the best job I've ever had. I look forward to work.

I wonder if I can report my former boss to someone or the board of something?

Cox Automotive gives us 24 days per year, and you can choose to use them either as vacation or sick leave. You cannot opt to have a sick day as an unpaid day off. Once you run out of days, I'm not sure what happens, but one year the wife ran out and they took from the next year's allowance.

And they wonder why almost everyone waits until December to take the bulk of their time off. :fp:

That's proper illogical. 'merica!

What if someone breaks a leg or has a serious accident meaning that they are unable to work or even attend work for a longer period of time (i.e. 2 months)?
