I... just got an off the cuff call from one of my bosses. He said he wasn't supposed to do this and he wouldn't give anything away, but he said after yesterday (before my interview) they had no reason to believe anyone else would get that job over the guy they interviewed yesterday. He said however that after my interview they were all incredibly impressed and said I came across as extremely proffessional. He said he couldn't confirm anything to me, but he said he's going to be fighting tooth and nail for me to get the position.

He gave me a tip by saying send an email tonight just to thank everyone for the opportunity and say that I hope everything went well. He didn't outright say I got the job, but he told me to have a very good weekend and that he'd see me Monday morning. Christ guys, I might've done it.

Good job. Now you get to deal with people's neverending gooseberry fool and be miserable, like me. :toot:

Good luck SD. My advice is just to pretend like nothing's happened.

It's often the case that interviewers can't agree, and you could get the job by just 1 decision maker. It sounds like you had something over the other guy and, especially coming internally, sometimes it's just not worth the effort getting someone else to fit in even if they are better qualified. Sometimes something just doesn't seem right about another candidate or they want to give someone else a chance because they simply like them. The internal candidate is obviously quite likely to be that person because they already know the company and feel more comfortable (this can swing both ways so you obviously didn't appear cocky and took it seriously). So I hope it works out well for you.

It's been obvious to me in the past that I've been favourable to one decision maker and the other has silently been a dick about it. You can never really know what's going on and it sucks. Internal reviews are really awkward like that. I've never had anything worse than having my current manager (at the time) staring at me and asking me questions about a perm position doing the same job I had already been doing for a year on a zero hours basis, as if I didn't already know the answers to these questions and was basically ready to just do the job and desperately needed the extra hours and security. I didn't get it and I never found out why even though the nice smiling guy offered me feedback - never followed it up because I felt a bit merked. Something I was prepared to commute 3 hours to as well (as I had already been doing but on another site).

So what you've probably put forward is professionalism and passion for the job which can be more important than other things. Hope it goes well!

Well they offered the job to anyone who applied (and they'd pick) internally before they've even advertised it. One of the other guys was my best friend (in and out of work) and when they asked if I didn't get it who I'd pick I said him, because honestly I think he'd be good for the job.

The other guy is second line at our company with a lot of experience in and outside of it. From the sounds of it though he might've only applied purely on the basis it's a management role and it'd look good on his CV. I applied because I want to make a difference in the company.

Good luck SD! Really hope you gets it!

On the flip side, today is my first day back at work for 3 months, and the beginning of my last 2 weeks there. I think I thought I'd be a lot more worried and/or scared but I genuinely don't care at this point. I've lost my locker key, forgotten my computer password and am wearing shitkicker boots as I threw away my formal shoes.

Fun times.

EDIT: I did iron my shirt though

I tell you What, I'm getting strawberry floating sick of being treated like a resource rather than someone who's managing work. Get in this morning to find emails where people are just deciding amongst themselves when I'll deliver work to them. "Ad will have this by Tuesday morning". Well maybe if you check with Ad first you'd have seen that he already has 57 (seriously) active jobs that need to be cleared by the end of next week (when I finish for the year). I'm in charge of prioritising everything and I have done so down to the hour of when I'll work on each project. Don't strawberry floating leave stuff until the last minute and then decide amongst yourselves when you'll get it

strawberry floating hell. What if I'm Ill? What if I can't come in (I plan for this in my time), what if we have a BLOODY ALL DAY MEETING TOMORROW SO I CAN'T WORK ON IT FUUUUUCKING TWATS.

Imagine what would happen if I got another job...

Very happy for you Qikz.

Ad, I know the feeling, you're the human GIMP. "I've entered this into the system, it won't take long, surely it's just a quick job." "X will handle this Wednesday morning." And they NEVER EVER account for the stupid amount of pointless whining and alterations because really they'd rather do it themselves if they weren't clueless about aesthetics.

2 and a half weeks to go in this job. :toot:

I have to leave instructions for how to work everything after I go. There's 7 "products" to cover, all about the same size, and I'd say I'm about 60% through the first one since Monday (so, about 8% overall?)

th-th-this is fine

Do you need to leave instructions to that level of detail? Is anyone really going to read 10000 words?

Sounds like you should have documented better while you did all this

No, but it should function as a handy reference for how different parts of it work.

I've been screaming at my boss for 7 years that I need the time to document it. Even now, when it is literally the only thing I should be doing, he's making me release new, unplanned gooseberry fool at a moment's notice. This is the kind of guy that would meet you on Tuesday, say he has a new idea for an online platform, and "can we launch this on Thursday? Set everyone up with an account and email them on the details. oh by the way, also change the messaging on this other thing to match this here? Actually, do that first. Here, I'll pull it up on my iPad. My emails aren't loading. Do you have wifi? Why aren't they loading? Here, you fix it"
