I am most confused as to why my external applications (2) ended up with rejections without even an interview. The company is basically the same kind of company that I already work at but they just operate in a different area of the country (DNOs).

Both times I got rejected with an email saying that I don't meet the requirements/qualifications/experience etc...I'm feeling a bit disappointed and confused as its the exact same field I have been working in for the past 4-5 years.

Ok one of the positions was in a department that I have never worked in but the other position was very similar to a role that I have 2 years of experience in. Plus it wasn't even a grade above what I am on, same level entry as I am now but higher pay due to the geographical location.

Having said that I was also rejected without interview recently for an internal position but to be fair I didn't meet one of their optional/favourable requirements.

Maybe I need to get out of this engineering field if its this bad.

I read somewhere that 50% off men will apply for jobs where they don't meet the criteria whereas almost no women would apply unless they met every expectation. I seen a job that I wasn't quite qualified for and hadn't worked in that filed for a while, but thought like a man and applied anyway. I got the job. Keep trying.

Thanks! Will do.
Well I fired off an email to the hiring manager for that internal position that I didn’t get an interview for. I have applied for it twice now and both times got no interview, even though the second time round they had removed one of the criteria’s that I originally didn’t meet. Hence why I applied again.
Will be interesting to see what he has got to say for himself! Lol

Also had an internal interview for another position last week. But I totally messed up the technical question even though it was easy and I knew the answer. I just wasn’t expecting to be asked that and ended up providing a very high level response (not a very detailed one). I can see the rejection coming my way this week.

Well done on getting that job btw!

Is it wrong to go to you're boss' boss behind his back because he's being incompetent? He has to finalise my annual report so that I get a small pay rise this year and he's not doing it. So i've emailed his boss instead. Needs to be done by 4th May =\

As long as you are following chain of command it shouldn't be an issue.

As long your boss hasn't said no and just isn't doing it there should be no reason I can see why there would be an issue going to his boss.

I basically sent him an email asking him for the second or third time if it's being done, and secret cc'd his boss into it. I'm away so can't talk to him in person. We shall see what happens now.

I would have just cc'd his boss so your boss knows, not with a blind copy.

The thing is my confidence is easily shaken, others at work don't see it as I can hide it.

I'd say no, because you probably won't be given the chance again. It's better to live with the bad days and be where you are than still have bad days but regret the step back.

In other news I got made permanent today :toot: Boss took me aside and said it's up in 10 days but he's already put the paperwork through.

Happy Days!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Still no sign of Psycho Director. She has almost certainly been sacked and they must just be waiting until it can be formally announced.

Got my interview on Thursday. I haven't been able to do any preparation whatsoever because I've simply been too busy :fp:.

Is it her position you are applying for?

Nope, although it is the position she worked in prior to becoming the PD.

Touché, Snowcannon! (I originally put this before Drummy's quote but it wasn't showing up...?)

Just reviewed a CV and this guy genuinely put "great banter" as one of his strengths

It'll piss him off immensely, and it probably wont go down well unless the big boss hates your boss.

Well bumholes, that interview really did not go as well as I hoped it would :fp:. Just could not get into a rhythm, kept realising I was rambling on talking bollocks. Will find out early next week.

So frustrated with myself! Someone even slipped me a copy of the questions in the morning so I've got no excuse. I've seen the other candidates coming in and they're all at least 10-15 years older than me.

In brighter news, we received confirmation today that Psycho Director has gone! The entire department has stopped work in order to celebrate :toot:.

Got called in this morning to be offered the job  they said they didn't even need to bother with a second round of interviews. Christ knows how bad the other candidates must have been.

One step closer to my evil plan for world domination :datass:.

I guess somehow your charm and demeanour struck out. I've been told in one interview they can tell how switched on I am from talking in such detail, and in another that I didn't seem to want to answer the questions and talk about something else. Two very different responses to being articulate and actually being able to generate discussion and not just robotically answer questions. As the former is more desirable in my opinion but doesn't suit an office job where you just drill through gooseberry fool. Some people want direct inviduals with strong work ethic but may be somehow dull or even a bit simple and others want alternative thinkers and people who can, well, think for themselves, while the will to do so is driven by their passion. I think that can be expressed by having a lot to say. Maybe you actually came off as someone confident and taking it in your stride, not worrying about questions or providing cookie cutter answers but something more interesting.

Who the strawberry float knows.

Well done. And yeah maybe you are just better than the rest and you should congratulate yourself for that. It doesn't matter how low the floor goes.
