Can't say I've used one of these, or smoked really (apart from trying a couple of cigarettes).

However, having been in Paris recently, there are whole shops over there dedicated to e-cigarettes. That being said, the French love their smoking. I was reading an article over there saying that 50% of 18-34 year olds smoke. :dread:

I'm curious as to why as well. Alvin isn't one of those busy bodies who like to ruin other peoples enjoyment out of pure spite, as opposed to actually being concerned for health reasons is he?

One of my mates at work has been trying to quit smoking for ages. He got one of these ones http://www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=180 and it's been a big help so far.

I'm not, but it seems to me that there are an awful lot of these e-cigs about, but not much of any kind of legislation governing them, or oversight from medical bodies like the FDA. The FDA doesn't oversee them like they do cigarettes, even though the Nicotine some contain (IIRC not all e-cigs are nicotiny, right?) is a harmful, addictive drug that means they should probably be regulated.

I quit smoking just like that. No E-Ciggies, patches, gums etc. I just went cold turkey, then again I do have a strong will that is almost unmatched if only I had the determination to go with it , I would be like amazing superhero or something.

Under-18s in England are to be banned from buying electronic cigarettes, the government has announced.

Experts say it is not yet known what harm the tobacco-free devices could inflict and that their contents could be damaging young people's health.

An estimated 1.3m people in the UK use e-cigarettes which were designed to help smokers quit.

Ministers also plan to make it illegal for adults to buy traditional cigarettes for anyone under 18.

The first UK TV advert featuring the use of an electronic cigarette - vaping - will be shown later.

While e-cigarette adverts have been on television for some time, showing the device itself was banned until a change in advertising rules which came into force overnight.

However, the Committee of Advertising Practice has ruled that adverts must not show tobacco "in a positive light".

Critics warn showing e-cigarette use could normalise the imagery of smoking.

The British government banned cigarette advertising on television in 1965.

Post-watershed

The new rules, put in place by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) state that adverts must not:

be "likely to appeal particularly to people under 18, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture"
encourage non-smokers to use e-cigarettes
claim e-cigarettes are "safer" or "healthier" than smoking tobacco
make any health claims without approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency
The new advert will be shown after the watershed and run for five weeks.

It shows a woman exhaling vapour from an e-cigarette.

Dave Levin of VIP, the Bury-based company behind the advert, says: "This advert will mark the first time in almost 50 years that TV audiences see someone exhale what appears to be cigarette smoke on an advert. However, it is actually vapour from an e-cigarette that they will see.

"E-cigarettes have attracted a lot of controversy recently, which has largely been due to concerns over safety, so it will be interesting to see how people respond to our advert's debut."

Prof Martin McKee, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, opposed the change to advertising rules.

He told the BBC: "This is a very daft idea, as many of us said during the consultation.

"A lot of questions need to be answered about e-cigarettes before adverts are even considered.

"First we need to get an agreement on whether they aid people to quit smoking or whether they become a lifestyle choice that people are going to use for 40 years - this hasn't been resolved yet.

"And there are still huge questions about their safety," Prof McKee added.

"Experts are also particularly concerned the adverts may lead to the renormalisation of images of smoking again. A number of e-cigarette companies are owned by the tobacco industry."

Serious concerns

Deborah Arnott, chief executive of health charity Ash, commented: "There is growing evidence that people are using electronic cigarettes as a way of cutting down or quitting smoking and very little evidence of people who have never smoked using them.

"Vaping is safer than smoking, but e-cigarettes should only be promoted to smokers.

"The VIP adverts sexualise e-cigarette use and encourage their use by everyone, not just smokers," she said.

"Ash doesn't see how these adverts conform to the guidelines and if they do then we are seriously concerned that the advertising guidelines are not fit for purpose."

"There is a place for responsible advertising of e-cigarettes but this isn't it."

The BMA said it was encouraged that the decision will be reviewed after 12 months "as advertising regulation must match changes in the market."

I puff mine wherever I go. Only twice have I been asked not to do it, in Hamleys toy shop by an obnoxious rent a cop and on a train station platform.

I still smoke 5 real cigs a day, once before work and on each of my breaks at work, kinda a psychological thing associating a work break with a ciggy. Currently smoking an Aspire Nautilus mini with a vision spinner 2, the best of the 15 odd different combinations I've tried.

I do suffer from taste bud burnout in regards to flavour though, find if I smoke the same flavour for too long I start to hate it.

Some of the guys at work have started on these - it's very jarring catching them puffing away in the office or the warehouse before remembering that they're not real cigarettes.

Also, my oldest brother, who is a massively outrageous stoner, and keen amateur scientist ( ) swears blind that he's found a way to take marijuana and 'distill' in a sense, so that you can use it in a vapouriser with no odour being present to anyone stood near you.

I'll report back on that when i go to see him next.

Currently working my through the latest vape mail. Got the temperance range from liberty flights. Fairly unique flavours in terms of vaping, all inspired by the temperance movement of the Victorian period, looking for alternatives to the evils of alcohol. The flavours are, blood tonic, lemon and ginger, sour cheery and hisbicus, sasparila and dandelion and burdock.

I've not tried them all, but the sasparila is a nice vape. Complex with herbal hints on the high notes and light, lemony coke like flavour on the exhale.

Blood tonic is a pure vimto style vape, berry filled with the hint of something else on the floral notes.

I'm also currently trying out some new flavours from ukecigstore. The cosmic fog brand, imported from the states are mostly dessert and fruity flavours, though milk and honey sounded too good to pass up.

Marshmallow lightness, with a thick honey aftertaste and a gentle, bananna style milkshake on the exhale. Probably not an all day vape, but quite extrodinarily good all the same.

Also have chruch to try, so called as it's a 'sundae' flavour. All these I tried in the aspire nautalis mini bvc tank, probably the best tank I've ever used to be honest.

I'm currently going through 2 e-liquids from ukecigstore, Orange Mist & Mixed Fruit, both pretty good. Recently finished 10ml of Fizzy Cola which was a nice change from my usual Fruity flavours.

Red Astaire is the best juice I've tried, and the Veritas is by far the best RDA.

Anyone ever tried any Colonel Booms liquid. http://www.colonelboom.co.uk/

Their Ceasefire, By Jove and Pearl Harbour flavours are the best i've tried.

I got 2 bottles of some other brand called 'Mrs B's' the other day which are awesome (rhubarb + custard and strawberry jam), lost the R+C already though, but it was amazing, so is the strawberry jam. But even awesome flavours I keep having to switch them up and come back to them a few days later. Damn taste buds.

All these different flavours are clearly intended to lure in non-smokers and I don't like it.
