I picked up a cheap disk only copy of Tamriel unlimited today. Any idea if I will even be able to play this? I know the game has been updated a lot and I am conscious that it should maybe have included a code or something.

Any idea if I will be able to play the base game? Will I be able to play any of the expansions or are these paid for content?

It depends which version of the game you picked up. If it's just the base game, then you'll be able to play through that no problem.

If it's the Gold edition, I think that comes with the initial four DLC packs (Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Orcsinium and the Imperial City).

If it's the Morrowind disc copy it'll have Morrowind, same with Summerset. It's likely one of the other two though I'd imagine.

The base game is pretty lengthy - you pick a faction and move through four or five sizeable zones, then do the last act of the story. And then they let you go and do the other two factions as well. There's probably at least 100 hours if you do everything in all those zones. Of course that's not the latest content but it's enough to get a feel for things.

If you subscribe to ESO plus (paying monthly that's a tenner per month) you get a few other bonuses, such as an infinite crafting bag and an XP buff. If you feel like you're enjoying the game, this is worth it as it gives you access to most of the game's DLC, of which there are many.

What isn't unlocked with ESO Plus are the "chapters". There have been three of these, and these are sizeable new zones with about 30 hours of playtime. The mostrecent, Elsweyr, has just been released and is £30.

However when a new chapter is released, the precious one gets put on ESO Plus, so you could play Morrowind and Summerset with that.

Plus each month you're subscribed to Plus, you get 1500 crowns. These are the Premium currency, so you can buy cosmetics and costumes and stuff. However you can also buy the DLC individually. Every piece bar Elsweyr has a price in the Crown Store, so feasibly you could sub for a bit and then use these to permanently buy the DLC you like and unsubscribe.

It's a little confusing, so maybe you're best playing through the main game and seeing how you like it first. I do think generally the content (and visuals) have gotten better as things progressed, so the base content may not be the most astounding, but there's still tonnes to do.

Just don't expect it to be like Skyrim. It's an MMO.

It’s apparently the Tamriel unlimited version, whatever that means. Any idea what that gives me access to?

Looking into it, that appears to be the base game. I take it I won’t bed any kind of code that would have come with the new version of the game?

That sounds like just the base game, then.

It depends how much you want to play the latest content. If pay a tenner, you can start your new character off in the Morrowind or Summerset content instead of in the base game.

I'd probably just play the base game. Maybe don't try and 100% each zone but just do the main quests and story. Then you can either go back and hoover up all the side quests, or subscribe to ESO Plus for a tenner and get a lot more stuff.

I don't *think* so (I got my base game as a digital download for about £6 two years back).

You might need a hefty update though. There was stuff added with DLCs (like the Thieves Guild skill lines) that were free for everyone, so there's been plenty added to the game over the years.

Is ESO plus just a one off payment?

No, it's £10 per month. So you don't want to be letting it lapse and you want to be getting your month"s worth (so using it to play the DLC, or if you're playing the game heavily and want the crafting back and XP perks).

If you're just playing the base zones you don't need it yet.

Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced - free upgrade June 8th for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 -
Launching with the Blackwood Chapter and Update 30 on June 8, Console Enhanced allows ESO to run natively on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, harnessing the horsepower of new-generation console tech to dramatically improve the game’s visual fidelity and performance on those machines. All new ESO players can access Console Enhanced immediately upon purchasing, and for existing customers, it is available as a free upgrade.

https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-u ... =115039773

The improvements:
60 FPS
For the first time, you can experience the game running at 60 frames per second when in “Performance Mode” on console. Previously capped at 30FPS, you can now enjoy a crisp 60FPS throughout your adventures.

Increased Draw Distance
Thanks to Console Enhanced, the game’s draw distance has almost been doubled for your new console, allowing you to see more than ever before when exploring the ever-growing world of Tamriel.

Unlocked Textures
In addition to Draw Distance, we’ve also unlocked the ability for new-gen consoles to use high resolution textures so that they look even better on larger screens.

Updated Antialiasing
Improved antialiasing is also in place to help smooth out the jagged edges of foliage, grass, and structures in game while also sharpening these elements when viewed up close.

Improved Reflections
We’ve also improved visuals with the addition of planar reflections, providing a massive boost to the game’s level of detail and realism. This is most noticeable in areas with water (such as Vivec City or Summerset). Note that when in Performance Mode, the boost to reflections might vary in water-heavy zones (such as Murkmire) or in areas where performance is most valued (such as in Cyrodiil or Trials).

Improved Ambient Occlusion with Screen Space Global Illumination
Upgrades to the game’s ambient occlusion with SSGI creates more realistic and natural indirect lighting and broadly boosts the level of detail in the game’s shadows.

Improved Shadows
Speaking of shadows, shadow resolution has been doubled and set to the PC equivalent of “Ultra”—the best possible setting for shadows in any version of ESO. This includes improvements to shadow distance.

Improved Depth of Field
The upgrade enables circular depth of field (the highest possible setting), creating smoother and more realistic background views, particularly when interacting with NPCs.

Improved Loading Times
Finally, loading times have been tuned to be much faster than previous generation consoles, with loading times being nearly cut in half on average.
