The Ultimate Computer
As Moggy says this was definitely a step up from the terrible Omega Glory, Kirk getting pissed off about being replaced by a computer was a solid setup for a story. The resolution essentially being another "tricking the computer into killing itself" is already starting to prove a little tired though! Nice to hear the origins of Daystrom though - someone that will still be getting referenced when we reach present day Trek! :toot:

But of course!

There are some "so bad, they're good" episodes and some just flat out bad ones. Luckily it's the shortest season (Only six weeks if I recall), so we just need to power through it.

I can see why CD May be feeling burnout from this, but I am completely new to Star Trek TV and am really enjoying it. Even the terrible episodes are entertaining in a hilarious way.

I'm actually annoyed we only have two episodes next week. I'm tempted to do a Jenuall and jump ahead.

Of all the things that "doing a Jenuall" could have become known as, this is definitely one of the least embarrassing options! :slol:

But yeah I'd be up for pushing through more episodes as well, it's been a lot of fun getting to see way more of the original series than I'd ever done before and I'm really keen to get to the movies as well because it's been years since I watch any of the original cast ones!

Could we fit the last 2 episodes of season 2 in before Sunday and then stick to the 4 a week?

CD will probably be happy with that, it'll get TOS over with quicker. ;)

I was going to say we can bring the last two forward if you want and start Season 3 tomorrow next week. :D

I dunno if I'll get the last two S2 episodes watched by tomorrow, but I'm happy to bring forward the start of S3.

Bread and Circuses

Yet another planet that developed English and an Earth parallel society :fp:

I liked the episode, but it'd be far better to make it an actual parallel universe version of Earth than mess around with it being just a coincidence.

Great banter with McCoy and Spock though. Those two are the greatest strength of this show.

But Kirk :fp: shagging a slave? :fp: :dread:

And the bloody they had Christ as well! ending was atrocious.

Assignment: Earth

What a weird episode. The whole thing felt like a different show, googling it just now shows it was designed as a pilot for a show that was never made.

A disappointing end to S2.

Spock's Brain

Wtf?

Rampant 60s sexism (Kirk literally asking to speak to the man in charge) aside, it's a mess of an episode that makes little sense.

Oh this isn't even the weirdest Spock episode, just you wait.

I kinda like "Spocks Brain". It's so utterly dumb that it's at least entertaining.

I was very impressed with both bits of brain surgery. It can't be easy to remove and then reinsert a brain without cutting any of the patient's hair.

The Enterprise Incident

That's more like it. The twist of it being a secret plan is easy to guess from miles away but angry Kirk is fantastic.

A good episode.

Just about to start the Paradise Syndrome.

Netflix's description makes this sound like it's going to be HORRENDOUS. I'll be back in an hour to see if I was right. :dread:

Just watched RoboSpock Spock's Brain, wow!

Main point for me - what the hell happened to Scotty between season 2 and 3?! Dude looks like he's aged about 20 years!

EDIT: also as time goes on they seem to have found more and more ways to up the sexism on display! :fp:

The Paradise Syndrome

Hmm, not quite as horrendously racist as I expected, but still way too much of the noble savage/white saviour stuff to be comfortable viewing.

Shatner's overacting is always hilarious and welcome though.

The stuff on the Enterprise was much better. A whole episode of them just on the Enterprise desperately trying to save a planet would have been better.

But at least we got an explanation for why human cultures are all over the galaxy.
