Tory party was always to the right of the French national front since they're a left wing party economically. They're more like the French BNP, another example of a left wing party who can best described as "old school labour with added racism".

EU liable for a Brexit bill too it seems.

Will be interesting to see how the funding gap is plugged, well Germany contribute more or will the free riders receive less?

I just can't believe that it isn't set out in the EU membership law who pays for what when a member country wants to leave the eu. I can see the argument from both sides but I can't believe that when they put into law the process for leaving many years ago that they also didn't put into law how it is paid for.

For example there are many private membership clubs that when you join will state that you have to pay an exit fee, or administration costs etc but these are set out in a contract and you agree to them. The company doesn't just make it up when you say that you want to leave.

Nobody really expected anyone to be monumentally stupid enough to invoke Article 50.

When was the last time a member state formally exited the EU? Are we the first?

It was the EEC at the time, but Greenland exited in mid 1980s.

Their population in 2016 was approx 56,000 people so that example isn't great.

So much for Brexit triggering a domino effect in the EU.

You could create a good EU, but the inventors of the current EU didn't.

The EU could always be better (as could anything!) but it's better to be in the club making decisions than outside muttering "I didn't want to go in anyway".

One of the things that infuriated me during the referendum campaign was that even Remain were saying "yeah look we know the EU sucks but...". It doesn't suck! The EU is great -- it's just been wilfully misunderstood by twats. Pandering to them was where the campaign went wrong. Much like how meeting racists half-way on immigration convinces them their point of view is reasonable, so it went with leavers.

This is very true. It seemed like Remain campaigners had to start from a position of “The EU isn’t perfect but…” or “I don’t think it works well but I’d like to reform the EU”. None of them really seemed to bother emphasising the many positives, but seemed to think they should start from the perceived negatives.

I don’t think anybody could seriously claim that the EU is absolutely perfect, but what is? We will never have a perfect political system or a perfect way of life.

It's been just over 6 months since I applied for Irish citizenship and so I thought I'd send a chaser email. Just received this reply:

Good Afternoon,

Due to the large amount of applications we have received, we have had to send applications to Dublin to be processed. Your application was amongst the applications that were sent .

Your application has been submitted to the next stage of the application approval process.

If you have any further queries, you can e mail my colleagues in Dublin via the e mail address below:
ppoclonfbr@dfa.ie

I guess that's good news, they didn't just chuck it in the bin anyway. ;)

I thought I'd post it here in case anybody else is waiting for their approval and wanted an email address to contact them.

I don't see anything to be that amused or happy about; it's everyone's food bill that will continue to go up at the end of the day, or an increase in imports from places like America, Australia and New Zealand, some of which - mainly from the US - will obviously be lower quality.
