I'm waiting for the reveal that we will be paying more to the EU than we currently do to remain a member of various parts of it. The reaction from the DM readers will be hilarious but sad at the same time as we will be paying more for less.

Would be hilarious if the difference was negligible. I don't think people would acknowledge it.

It is more but we are choosing to do that! Our Sovrintee chooses to do that rather than being forced to!

Jacob Rees Moron strikes again.

HMRC have come out with the costing for the Max Fac solution. 20 billion.

So the EU don't want it and it would cost more than our EU contributions. Hahahahahahahaha.

Boris’s Brexit plan ‘to cost industry up to £20 billion a year’

Boris Johnson’s favoured Brexit customs plan would cost businesses up to £20 billion a year, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) chiefs have told MPs.

The estimate threatens to torpedo the so-called “maximum facilitation” plan for goods that Brexiteers say would best allow the UK to strike free trade deals.

Giving evidence to MPs today Jon Thompson, the permanent secretary of HMRC, said customs declarations both at the UK and the EU borders, together with complex “rules of origin” checks, could cost businesses between £17 billion and £20 billion a year.

That's more than what we pay into the EU per year.

Edit: oops, missed your post Squinty!

"Lets take the £350million we give the EU, add a bit more to it and then spend on a customs process we didn't actually need

Maybe not such a catchy soundbite.

I like how the Daily Fail thinks Brexit isn't already a chaotic, farcical nightmare.

That's a very interesting read. This notion that we can suddenly sign a bunch of trade agreements on Brexit day and this will automatically result in swathes of new customers for British companies is one of my biggest annoyances. It trivialises the hard work that goes into getting business and it's done by a bunch of people who have no practical experience of the bullshit they're peddling (and, unfortunately, no stake in the game either).

Keep transitioning until the mandate for Brexit has died of old age.

It's insane that some of our politicians don't seem to though.

This is the first time I've heard someone lay down the nuts and bolts of moving goods in and out if the EU and he's spot on in everything he says.

The fuckwits in charge have no idea what is involved in customs movements and it staggers me that there seems to be no wider discussion about just how much this is going to destroy lives in this country. But as per usual the gammons don't care about it and the politicians advocating for it have nothing to lose even if (when) it goes tits up.

Customs is complicated, it's expensive and there is far more to it than most people comprehend.
