The Labour MP John Cryer for my constituency in London voted to leave and I can't see him representing the majority who voted to remain. The bastard.

As GRcade decided on me voting for her, this is a massive GRcade victory!

This is great news though, Bristol voted to Remain and so it's only right that our MPs do the right thing.

But you wouldn't say that if Bristol voted to leave would you? The MPs should do what they think is best for the country.

Bristol would never have voted to leave, we are sensible and intelligent people. 8-)

I think MPs should do what's best for the country but the fact is that they are not going to do that. The parliament vote is going to be overwhelmingly in favour of article 50. I'm just glad that my MP is going to stick up for her constituents and rebel against the joke of a leader that her party currently has.

As things are at the moment I'd say we're on track for a good 100-120 votes against. Certainly nowhere near enough but it's not an insignificant number.

MP Thangam Debbonaire is the best thing GRcade has done for this world.

Future leader of the country Thangam.

But do they then risk undermining their support in a general election? If the majority of their voters, in their constituency, voted to Remain, would they then lose their votes next time around if they feel their views aren't being represented?

Well, the bad news is for us Remainers in majority Remain constituencies is nobody gives a strawberry float about what we want or what we feel.

We're stuck with the worst decision this country has made since the Iraq war (and this is much worse) and will be stuck with this decision for the next 30 years at least.

Hmmm. I mean, that's not true is it.

It depends on how selfish you're being. Your median GRcade forumite is likely to feel more negative effects from Brexit than they did from the Iraq war.

In a global context obviously the Iraq war is a lot worse.

Yeah but come on, even for someone like you or I Karl - losing out on science funding or having to return to the UK against their will - it's utterly gooseberry fool but it's not the end of the world.

Despite most of the (fairly justified) outrage on here, most of us will be absolutely OK post Brexit. Maybe a bit poorer and more disillusioned with society but realisticially fine.

When the tories get away with changing the bill of human rights, remove rights from workers, make the poor poorer and gut the NHS. lots of people will die.

What does leaving the EU have to do with those? Bar the alteration of human rights and if we're being realistic I highly doubt that will result in deaths.

British workers' rights are already miles ahead of what is required by the EU and the rest of it has virtually nothing to do with Brussels.

25 March? It will all be done and dusted by then, other than perhaps for May to actually say the words.

I was having a couple of drinks with a friend last weekend and we got talking about Brexit. I knew he was a Leave voter and extremely ignorant on anything political, he's the same guy who when I asked why he was voting Leave said "just fancy a change". :fp:

Anyway, as we were chatting I mentioned that post-Brexit a lot of trade agreements might well include freedom of or easing of movement of people. He said that was fine because "people would be coming here to work not just take benefits". I laughed and said most EU immigrants came to work and he said "yeah but the Somalians don't".

I (ignored the racism) pointed out that's got nothing to do with the EU, allowing in Somalians was a British decision. "No!" he said "EU freedom of movement meant we had to let them in!".

It took a while to explain that as Somalia isn't in the EU that freedom of movement didn't apply to them.

He's a lovely bloke really but clueless on things like this and believes any old claptrap he hears people saying and usually gets even that muddled up. It makes me despair though when such people are allowed to vote on such complex and important matters.

A significant proportion of people are either not clever or knowledgeable enough to be trusted with a vote.

Oblomov Boblomov's Autocratic Party starts here. GRcadians get first dibs on cabinet positions. Let's rule this joint :toot:.
