Yeah, I managed to scrape an A in the coursework, so hopefully I won't fail too badly at the exam. There are just things I should know but don't because he's never been over them. Hopefully I can learn it out of the revision book.

Things like the actual circuit symbols for logic gates (I know what the various gates do from being a computer geek, but I need to learn the symbols), op-amps (what they do and how to use them - *whoosh* tbh), and the mathsy side, eg voltage over a potential divider, and how to work out where the switch and where a resistor goes in a potential divider to create a desired effect, etc.

It's mostly in the guide, I'm just annoyed that we've not been taught what seems like some pretty fundamental stuff. He mostly just told us where each bit of the circuit goes when we were doing the practical without much on why, though.

My knowledge of the stuff we've done is pretty good, I can tell you what all the pins on a 555 IC do, and I'm like the strawberry floating Buddha of those PIC chip flowchart thingies (again due to computer geekery more than what he's taught us).

theres loads of electronic nerds on here, i.mosfet springs to mind. of course im finishing off my electronics a level so if you have a question..

I'll try my best with the guide, but if I start to panic closer to the exam this'll be the first place I head!!

circuit symbols comes with time + looking at circuit schematics. you just need to remember them, i know that doesnt help, but its a thing where a teacher cant help you with it. with op-amps, you can use them as comparators where you use 1 of the input pins as a constant voltage and the other input (variable) and if it goes above/below a voltage it changes to positive negative (my explanation is gooseberry fool but read wiki, basically comparator is one its main uses). also with an op-amp you can use them as a voltage follower (grabs a high impedance signal and outputs it with low impedance), a summing amplifier (used in music mixing desks, so multiple inputs), a non-inverting amplifier, and an inverting amplifier. i got a good thing to show you, dont know how to send it to you as its a powerpoint file.

EDIT: it seems the stuff they want you to learn is the gooseberry fool you learn in AS level electronics and the stuff you already know from being a computer geek (digital stuff) is stuff you learn in the A2 year... (not all of it).

Conputing A level...not so easy The A2 coursework was a right bastard. I still apparently just got an A in it (which could go down a mark or two as it's marked by an eternal examiner), but only after hours and hours of work and getting it back to make a few adjustments at a time when they really shouldn't have done it. Fair play to my lecturer, he put with lots of missed deadlines and obviously-fake excuses from me and still helped me out! Still the exams aren't too bad, certainly nowhere near the coursework in terms of work load.

My Electronics teacher was off for six months as well

I have an exam in web applications on Thursday. It's not so much it's going to be hard it's just I'm not entirely sure what parts I should be studying (PHP and Javascript are quite broad). Also the lecturer has never taught this class before so literally anything could come up. Fun times.

I've got to be up in 5hrs for my exam but I'm not at all tired so I don't want to go to bed, but I've got two more exams on thursday and friday so I shouldn't really be messing with my sleep patterns.

What to do?

go to bed when your tired and only when your tired and make sure, until you finsh your exams that you wake up at the same time everyday, this way your body clock will naturally reset.

I'll probably get tired at about 6am just when I need to be waking up
I'll be fine for my exam tomorrow morning but I'm a bit worried that I'll spend the rest of the day in bed and won't get any revision done for my exam on thursday. Or even worse, I sleep through my alarm thursday morning and miss my exam.

Actually, I just remembered that I've not yet figured out how to turn off the alarm on my new phone so it will keep ringing until I take the battery out. I'll use that alarm instead of my normal one and it should wake me (and the rest of my flat) up

I've only a couple of hours nap each night for the last four days - I figure, get through the next week on sheer strawberry floating nervous energy then collapse into bed for a week with a bottle of gin.

i used to sleep through 2 alarm clocks until i got all ill in the easter, and now for some awful reason i wake up from 7-8am whether i want to or not.

An A in Computing coursework? Holy gooseberry fool dude. I think I got a D in mine (AS). It is so getting dropped. The coursework for it is ridiculous. The programmings alright and all, but the write-up is just frustrating.

I just got back from my Computer Architecture exam. As per usual all of the stuff I revised wasn't in the exam and all the stuff I didn't revise much was in the exam

It wasn't a complete disaster though as there was a few very easy questions ("Explain Moore's Law" ) but I'm not sure if I did enough. Oh well, now to start revising for tomorrow's exam "Theory of Computation"

haha, this always happens to me man, and for once it didnt happen in 2 exams 2 weeks ago. i just went through loads of papers and tried to understand everything, it felt so good to go through the paper quickly knowing that i got most (hopefully) of the stuff right. just try and do a bit of everything instead of alot of something.

Came back from my Distributed Systems exam, as with satriales the stuff I revised on was only a small part of the exam, although I winged the stuff I didnt know as well, better than leaving the question blank.
