Would be good to do it for the launch of the new cars in a couple of weeks.

So the later starts are happening then! good news for me as that means a start of 9:10am here in NY rather than 8am

Welcome to the forum and the thread.

Depending on how dull or exciting the season is planning out, you'll find this thread is either a hive of activity or you can go multiple races without a single post. Don't let that put you off, keep posting.

Hello, i'm also an F1 supporter, I've followed it since 1991, and over the years have built up an extensive collection of memorabilia and driver autographs.

Can't say i'm a fan of the halo though, it's such an ugly piece of kit.

Change of name? Thought you'd just migrate across as D.J Vermilion, good to see you here :)

I'll probably post pretty frequently around here, there's stuff to discuss even if it is a relatively boring race (normally anyway). Hopefully we get an exciting season, 2017 started off fantastic but seemed to burn out towards the end.

Welcome Noobs!

Nice to have some fresh blood in the thread. Memes to remember for the coming season are HAMILOL and ALONSLOL.

We haven't really worked out memes for the rest of the drivers yet (although we did have MASSALOL) !

Would be neat, though these days i find it hard to get excited about McLaren liveries, every year they disappoint and i suspect 2018 will be no exception.

I'm hopeful they will return to the orange actually, Zak alluded to as much in an interview last season (saying that they listened to their fans or similar to that anyway), whether it'll be a testing livery or full race one who knows.

They still should have used red/white during the Honda years, it would have pleased a lot of the fans even despite the fact that the engine was terrible. A lot of people said red/white wasn't possible as that would have been a Marlboro livery, yet Super Aguri did it back in the mid 00's and their cars looked great.

Apparently...

Fernando Alonso favours IndyCar-like orange for 2018 McLaren F1 car

"Ha, no, not [seen it] yet - but we'll see.

"I'll be happy with any colour, but McLaren and orange is part of our DNA, so it will be nice if we see some orange like the IndyCar.

"That was a great event and a great McLaren car there."

I'm hoping for an orange and white livery myself, but anything is better than the 2015/2016 liveries. :dread:

McLaren apparently have some new sponsors and partners which is nice to see after the past 3 or 4 years, but I'm finding it hard to get excited by the team despite having the best driver in Alonso and hopefully more power from the Renault. Honda being so slow and unreliable + that token development system really did a lot of damage.

The first design they used in 2015 was laughable, especially considering the massive expectation and hype they created at the time.

Main thing I'm hoping for for 2018 is for the front 3 teams to be interchangeable in order for once. I feel like both Red Bull and Ferrari are finally ready to make that push to be near or equal competitive to Mercedes

I'd still throw all my money behind Mercedes. Even if I didn't believe that Lewis is the greatest driver of the modern era, I'd wager that this year's strict engine limit is going to hurt like hell for the less reliable teams. Mercedes looked bulletproof last year.

Don't care about the colour of the McRenault, the car's probably gonna suck regardless.

Regarding Lewis, the pedant in me still hates the fact that he refuses to use the No.1 on his car.
