A true champion can drive around a car problem.

What about Irvine?

If Hamilton breaks his leg and misses a few races over it then I will let him off on that one.

If Schumacher was any good, he wouldn't have crashed and broken his leg

You do realise the crash was caused by brake failure?

So car failure's an excuse??

Car failure is not an excuse, that's on the team

Car failure that leads to an injury which causes you to miss 7 races when you probably would have won the Championship but most certainly is.

Would be like blaming Lauda for crashing at the Nurburgring

Ah, so it's the team's fault, not the driver's

I do love how Lewis Hamilton literally tells every single country he's in that "they're the best fans in the world".

Amazing achievement though.

I can't work out if copied that from Trump when he addresses a friendly crowd or if trump copied him.

Some news on the 2021 engine regulations

  • 1.6 Litre, V6 Turbo Hybrid
  • 3000rpm higher engine running speed range to improve the sound
  • Prescriptive internal design parameters to restrict development costs and discourage extreme designs and running conditions
  • Removal of the MGUH
  • More powerful MGUK with focus on manual driver deployment in race together with option to save up energy over several laps to give a driver controlled tactical element to racing
  • Single turbo with dimensional constraints and weight limits
  • Standard energy store and control electronics
  • High Level of external prescriptive design to give ‘Plug-And-Play’ engine/chassis/transmission swap capability
  • Intention to investigate tighter fuel regulations and limits on number of fuels used

Should fix a number of the issues people have with the current generation of power unit.

Like the idea of the driver deployment and being able to store up energy over laps.

It will destroy lap records and make in and out laps so fast.

So am I right in thinking a driver could in theory save up energy for a whole race and just have full boost for the last lap or however long it is?
That's most likely a terrible strategy but could mean someone going completely mental at the end of the race and just overtaking everyone in a glorious finale.

Just imagine that a Williams plodding along and then "BANG, here I am live with this you bunch of nerds!".

I doubt the battery capacity would be large enough, also you have to take in to account the performance drop off on the laps it's not being used. Saving it up would only be viable if you're being held up for a fee laps or if you're in front at say Monaco.

Could they possibly give the slower teams more capacity to try and bunch the field a bit more?

That would be a bit artificial I think, and I was all for store and use up as you wish but I think the effect on pit stops makes it a bit broken. I guess it depends on the offset for storing it and I imagine normal procedure will be to burn 95% or so a lap.

I know I sound like a broken record on this, but the main thing they have to fix is to allow the cars to follow each other without wrecking the car/tyre performance. It's utterly pathetic it has gone on so long.

Wouldn't that require the cars to look completely different as the problem is the airflow over the back and no amount of tweaking is going to fix it other than scrapping the rear wings or something equally radical.

It would probably require standardised front and rear wings. Personally I wouldn't mind them moving away from wings at this point and getting more down force from ground effects.

Massa's retiring for good this time.

That's a shame. Massa has driven really well this season in my view but has had terrible luck in races such as Canada and Mexico. I think a lot of the good feeling that people have for the Williams team is tied to him and the proposed alternatives don't look very appealing to me. We saw what Schumacher lost in his three years away from the sport and he didn't suffer an injury like Kubica's and Kubica is no Schumacher.

Also, the fact that Massa is the spit of Danny DeVito in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest as Williams principal sponsor namesake 'Martini' makes him the obvious choice for team leader
