Gen 2 Formula E cars look really good.

No real wing and most of the downforce being generated by the underside of the car.

I really want Formula E to come back to London, as that'll probably be my best chance to see something like that live. Even if I hope they move away from the street circuits and go to a proper track once

What's Hideous, Weighs 15 Pounds and Can Support a London Bus? F1's New Halo

https://twitter.com/MercedesAMGF1/statu ... ew-halo%2F

has got me thinking what if a halo fails during a race and falls off and hit a car or driver an object weighing 15 pounds into a car travelling at 100mph :dread: had failures before on driver headrests before DC at Silverstone in 2003 wasn't it?

I'm fairly certain these things will be bolted on in such a way that a failure will be pretty much impossible. You could worry about any large part falling off a car and I'd argue of all the things likely to fall off the wheels are still the most likely.

I honestly don't mind the halo and am looking forward to seeing how the teams develop the aero fairings they can attach to it. :shifty:

Hamilton also had a failing with his headrest in Baku (I think) last year, luckily he didn't lose it. I would be surprised to see the Halo fall off during a race due to the strict regulations regarding the mounting points and crash structure supports, but that is a scary thought indeed. :dread:

I think the bigger danger with the halo is something going wrong in a crash and it ending up trapping the driver inside.

I agree, the new Formula E cars look great, even the Halo doesn't look overly out of place on them (from a purely aesthetic point of view it'd look better without though), ill be very interested to see how the lap times compare to this years cars as they have to do the whole race from the one battery with a more powerful motor attached, no doubt they'll start quicker but will they still be by the end when they're nearly out of power?

Hopefully it won't ever happen but from the sounds of it the Halo would cause major damage to just about anything it did hit. As Vermilion said, a much more pressing issue is the driver getting out of the car. When I last saw a driver get out of the car it wasn't anywhere near as quick as without the Halo there, the driver will probably have a harder time getting out in the event of them rolling over as well as while the cockpit will be slightly further off the ground they'll have a much smaller exit space than before.

This is such a lame method of unveiling an F1 car.

Williams did the same last year I think. Still, much better looking livery than horrible dark grey from last year.

Well does that mark the start of the 2018 season then? :D

Looks like they've opted for similar side pods like Ferrari's last year, or maybe its just my eyes telling me that.

Aye, probably time for someone to do the 2018 thread now that the cars are being unveiled. Williams tomorrow but next week should be really good.

Toro Rosso just climbed a place on my favourite team list.

If you're going to render a car, at least get someone who knows how to set the environment up so it looks realistic and not like a ps2 grade model.
