the halo itself is in tact, the cracks are in the shroud the teams are allowed to encase it in.

Why were people unhappy with the halo coming in?

Because it's moving away from the open cockpit nature F1 has always been know for and to a lesser degree it makes the drivers ever so slightly harder to recognise by their helmets. Personally I had no issue, if it saves lives in the long run then it's worth the other trade offs.

Re the Halo of Leclerc's car, the actual Halo is intact and the shroud has just been cracked and scraped (as Ad7 posted) but still, considering it looks like the Halo took a nasty whack from the tyre (and probably other parts of Alonso's car) it certainly saved him from an injury (who can say how serious it'd have been but the tyre's aren't light and I imagine it was moving with a fair speed already), add this to the nasty Formula 2 accident from early in the season and the Halo is already proving its worth in the various formulas it's being used in.

And it looks awful.

Anyway, crushingly dull race again. Glad that Vettel won, but other than the crash on the first corner, absolutely nothing of note or interest happened.

He won't though if he's actually been offered it that is, other drivers who deserve a shot before Kyvat again in my opinion.

Wehrlein never really did much special but would be good to see him in a slightly better car than the Sauber of 2017 with its 2016 spec power unit.

I'd like to see JEV back in F1, should never have been chucked out by Red Bull first time round.

I kind of get why they're going back to Kyvat (maybe anyway) as currently their young driver pool isn't amazing but if they look outside of it there's some really good drivers in Formula 2 as well who they could give a shot to for a season and then look at their young drivers again in a year. Or if Grosjean does get dropped by Haas for Leclerc then Grosjean wouldn't be a bad shout if he wanted to stay in F1.

Jesus. Looks like drs didn't close under braking, then the balance all shifted to the front and it snapped.

That's exactly what happened, I believe Leclerc's DRS then failed later in the session although he was aware it could be an issue and probably tried to close it well before the braking point.

Yes Kimi! :D

That was a tense Q3, nice little front row lock out for Ferrari, let's hope they can convert that to a 1 - 2 in the race.

For Seb to win, he'll need to put a box of ice cream on the grid next to Kimi's car.
