Really good race. Some interesting incidents and some good race strategy today.

'Formation all the way home just to show our Italian collegues'

Ferrari with a trick double battery on their ERS system, a car advantage, and they STILL throw it away :fp: You can't afford gooseberry fool like this with someone like Lewis around.

It's hard for us to understand as F1 to a lot of Italian fans is pretty much a team sport, whereas we focus more on the racing driver and not the team. They are more like football fans. I would like to have a British team to get behind and Mercedes despite being German feels like it should be that team, especially for me as they are based in my home county and a number of people i know work for them. But ultimately when Hamilton leaves and if they become gooseberry fool and don't have a driver i find interesting then i probably wouldnt care too much about them.

Hamilton is getting quite good at winding them up though.

Honestly I'm just so annoyed by Vettel and the errors he's had this season. Germany I can understand, conditions were poor and his rear just locked up on him. France with hitting Bottas and today just annoy me. He's just handing it to Hamilton doing this, with the car advantage and getting back up to 4th/5th he's not thrown away as many points as he might have but still far more than he should be doing against Hamilton who is driving very well.

Wasn't expecting that.

Good race anyhow, crap result (Hamilton again *yawn*), but good race nethertheless.

That was a great race but a few things stand out. The speed difference between the top three teams and everyone else is ridiculous. The other drivers were pretty much leaping out of the way of Vettel on the straights, more often than not he had blasted by well before the breaking zone. I thought the B teams were supposed to have engine parity but clearly they don't.

Vettel is still a bit of a crash kid. One of the downsides of his years at the front with Redbull means he hasn't really honed his racecraft. He looks scrappy wheel to wheel. In comparison, Verstappen seems to get into incidents purely for being too aggressive where as Vettel's are more often than not down to driver error. I wonder if he fails to lift the title this year, what implication that will have for him. Its basically his errors costing him this season as Ferrari definitely have the best car. He is now in his 4th season and at this stage Schumacher was well on his way to Ferrari's first title with him.

Hamilton is such a frustrating character. He is mostly obnoxious off the track but is undoubtedly the driver of this generation. If Ferrari continue this upward trend and Hamilton eventually signs for them, they could be unbeatable. I get the impression that if the new management at Ferrari get tired of waiting for Vettel, they could make a move for him.

I feel bad for Kimi, he gets a lot of flak but his race was compromised by having to race two cars after Vettel's mistake. He did everything asked of him but was snookered all round.

EDIT: Oh yeah and the Mercedes formation should be a warning to any team that gets unsporting. After Vettel's comment at Silverstone that he was going to take the British flag back to Maranello, Ferrari were asking for it.

Pretty much spot on.

However I do think the power units are pretty equal across the teams (obviously they can't be completely identical as one engine will probably always produce a couple of BHP more than another) and the difference more comes down to the money the top 3 can spend on different aero packages whereas Williams for example, didn't have a Spa/Monza spec package as they probably couldn't afford it. Reckon it's the case for a lot of the other teams (bar Renault who did have a different aero package on Hulkenberg's car at least).

I find Vettel frustrating every now and then, sometimes he looks genuinely fantastic in wheel to wheel situations (certainly a lot better than when at Red Bull but he had his good moments there as well) but then silly mistakes like the one yesterday happen. In the best car (which on the whole Ferrari certainly seem to have) it normally wouldn't be an issue but when Hamilton is driving supremely well every weekend (and Mercedes have fully gone for Bottas being a number 2) these errors are even more costly. Sadly I don't see Ferrari winning the WDC unless Hamilton crashes/DNF's at one of the remaining races so Vettel can capitalise on it or they dominate the remaining 7 races by locking out the top 2 steps all the time (again, don't see that happening).

Hamilton and Vettel make for an interesting comparison. Both joined the sport at a similar time, impressed with their undoubted talent but struggled with moments of hot headedness and impatience. Hamilton has matured into an incredibly consistent driver who rarely makes mistakes and usually delivers the maximum possible, whereas Vettel is still quite impetuous and far less consistent. He is a great driver but he just hasn't developed as well as Hamilton. It will be interesting to see which way Max goes!

Anyway, great race yesterday, really loving this championship fight. Hoping Hamilton takes it but also hoping it goes down to the last race! Merc should still be worried about Ferrari's pace.

Well, Vandoorne is gone at the end of the season, wonder if Sauber will pick him up.

Don't feel he has been given a fair crack but F1 is ruthless and he doesn't look likely to be the next Hamilton, so It wouldn't surprise me if this is it for him.

I really hope McLaren actually get their stuff together for next season, or it'll be the same for the next two seasons for Sainz and Norris with an underperforming car resulting in them getting dumped out of the sport as they couldn't show what they could do in a decent car (more for Norris really as Sainz has had a decent enough car this season really).

Either him or Chuck Norris but I think that would be unfair on the rest of the grid.

Chuck Norris would take the chequered flag, by force.
