The other drivers were pretty much leaping out of the way of Vettel on the straights, more often than not he had blasted by well before the breaking zone. I thought the B teams were supposed to have engine parity but clearly they don't.
Vettel is still a bit of a crash kid. One of the downsides of his years at the front with Redbull means he hasn't really honed his racecraft. He looks scrappy wheel to wheel. In comparison, Verstappen seems to get into incidents purely for being too aggressive where as Vettel's are more often than not down to driver error. I wonder if he fails to lift the title this year, what implication that will have for him. Its basically his errors costing him this season as Ferrari definitely have the best car. He is now in his 4th season and at this stage Schumacher was well on his way to Ferrari's first title with him.
Hamilton is such a frustrating character. He is mostly obnoxious off the track but is undoubtedly the driver of this generation. If Ferrari continue this upward trend and Hamilton eventually signs for them, they could be unbeatable. I get the impression that if the new management at Ferrari get tired of waiting for Vettel, they could make a move for him.
I feel bad for Kimi, he gets a lot of flak but his race was compromised by having to race two cars after Vettel's mistake. He did everything asked of him but was snookered all round.
EDIT: Oh yeah and the Mercedes formation should be a warning to any team that gets unsporting. After Vettel's comment at Silverstone that he was going to take the British flag back to Maranello, Ferrari were asking for it.
Pretty much spot on.
However I do think the power units are pretty equal across the teams (obviously they can't be completely identical as one engine will probably always produce a couple of BHP more than another) and the difference more comes down to the money the top 3 can spend on different aero packages whereas Williams for example, didn't have a Spa/Monza spec package as they probably couldn't afford it. Reckon it's the case for a lot of the other teams (bar Renault who did have a different aero package on Hulkenberg's car at least).
I find Vettel frustrating every now and then, sometimes he looks genuinely fantastic in wheel to wheel situations (certainly a lot better than when at Red Bull but he had his good moments there as well) but then silly mistakes like the one yesterday happen. In the best car (which on the whole Ferrari certainly seem to have) it normally wouldn't be an issue but when Hamilton is driving supremely well every weekend (and Mercedes have fully gone for Bottas being a number 2) these errors are even more costly. Sadly I don't see Ferrari winning the WDC unless Hamilton crashes/DNF's at one of the remaining races so Vettel can capitalise on it or they dominate the remaining 7 races by locking out the top 2 steps all the time (again, don't see that happening).
