Fwiw I think the last great looking f1 cars we had were in 2010, when they made them strip all the gooseberry fool from the bodywork. Add the low wings on to this and widen the cars and we're done :datass:

I always hated the look of the 2009-2016 cars, those tall narrow rear wings combined with wide front wings made the cars look completely out of proportion.

Thank god for that, it's still a crappy deal compared to how things used to be, but at least it means i can actually still watch F1.

Hopefully the F1 SVOD service will make it to the UK at some point, I'll be tempted by that. Not getting Sky.

Formula E's next generation car is kinda similar or is F1 copying their looks

While Indycar's are the best looking out of them all

The problem with that kind of look is that I don't feel like the team has designed it. Stick a Ferrari logo on it and paint it red, but I dont believe they made it.

There was a time when F1 car designs developed and changed naturally with teams bringing along their own unique looks, shapes, and innovations when putting together their creations.

Nowadays it's whatever the FIA decide, and the end result is that every team's car looks exactly the same with no distinguishing features whatsoever, it always makes for really dull car launches come pre-season as once you've seen one car, the others are exactly the same only with different paintwork (and this 2021 design will be no different).

They need to loosen up the rules so teams can do their own thing to a certain extent.

I not sure it's that simple though. Technology is so sophisticated these days, what with simulators, big data, etc., that most teams would probably design something very similar even if the rules were more relaxed. In the old days there was more scope for creative genius but now the devil is in the details.

The only free area on the cars this year is the bargeboard area and look how stupidly detailed they are.

Top lap from Hamilton. Quite the surprise after it seemed like Ferrari had the edge going in to qualifying.

Vettel has Verstappen in front of him tomorrow.

Love him or hate him, he is incredibly quick. He is showing Vettel up at the moment.

I think at this track Mercedes are faster than Ferrari at this point and Red Bull are around the same.

Ferrari have been quicker all weekend and Valtteri’s seven tenths slower than his teammate in the same car.

I think it’s pretty safe to say at this point that Lewis is just better.

Yep, Hamilton is so dislikeable off the track but surely there can't be any doubt he is the best driver on the track. I do think there is a slight element that Mercedes are kicking in again during the development war of the season tailoring a car that works for Hamilton if not Bottas, but that was an incredible lap from Hamilton akin to when Senna had everything hooked up with qualy tyres and a qualy engine.

Merc are actually closer to Ferrari at this stage of the season compared to last year which doesn't bode well for Ferrari given how last season went down, and with Vettel dropping so many points.

That said, it could all change at the first corner today especially with Dirty Max second on the grid.

Ferrari have been quicker all weekend but in qualifying, both Mercedes and Red Bull have been faster. Hamilton is faster than his teammate, but likewise his teammate is faster than Kimi. This to me suggests that Mercedes do have some kind of advantage or maybe there was some sandbagging going on during practise.

No doubt that Hamilton is rapidly approaching being the best driver on the grid, Alonso still seems to put in some sublime performances even in the McLaren.

I think both Ferrari's could have gone quicker but Lewis's lap just looked unreal, almost unbeatable watching it.

I really can't see the WDC going any other way than Hamilton currently, certainly based on individual performance. Mercedes seem to always have another gear they can find on the development front as well judging by previous seasons. Time will tell if this is the case again.

Imagine thinking Lewis is anything but the best

The guy is incredible and it's pure Ferrari salt that people can even begin to think other wise.
