Not as good as the other two, for me, and a little bit of a let down (though still a well-written, fascinating novel). The ending, though, surprised and stayed with me, and I thought about it for a long time afterward. I personally think it might have been a better book had it been a standalone entry and not part of a wider series (he explored a similar theme with Railsea, for example, which I think was more effective).

I really struggled with it and gave up about 2/3rds of the way through which surprised me as PSS and The Scar enthralled me from start to finish. Not sure what about it that didn't gel as I've just started The City and The City and again I'm hooked.

Bit grim all round!

Favourite film is probably Hot Fuzz. One of the best times I’ve had watching something. Great writing, great acting, great setting. Just great.

Favourite solo artist - Eric Prydz.

If you only know him from Call on Me check out anything else he's done in the last 15 years, the man is an electronic genius. The skill with which he transitions between songs during live sets is pretty much untouchable.

Favourite book - Master of the Senate by Robert Caro

It's the third of four currently available volumes on the life of Lyndon B Johnson, and really is everything I aspire to be as a historian. Astounding levels of research, a fascinating subject and a very interesting narrative on the life of a unique American leader.

Favourie Band - Don Broco.

Saw them at Slam Dunk in 2017 because I wanted a good position for a mosh when Enter Shikari headlined. I was blown away. Seen them 5 times since.

Agreed. The whole of Jar of Flies is pretty melancholy (and amazing), even more so since Layne died. I’ve often thought I’d like Whale and Wasp followed by Don’t Follow played at my funeral. Happy weekend, everybody.

I'm glad you got what I was saying Rinksy. It's probably my favourite of the Layne era AIC EPs/LPs. Whale and Wasp, Don't Follow, Rotten Apple, Nutshell and No Excuses are frankly remarkable songs. :wub:

Alice in Chains opened. I feel honoured that I got to see them.

I’ve seen them a few times now but I don’t imagine it’s anything like it was with Layne nowadays, though they’re still really good. What a complete waste of a unique talent.

I think Facelift is my favourite AIC album, closely followed by Dirt.

Yeah that's a classic, I'd also recommend Embassytown and Kraken. Fantastic author.

So I think we're on favourite book and given Dan nicked my choice early doors I'll go for something else. It's Stone Junction by Jim Dodge. It's a glorious adventure of gamblers, con artists, magicians and drug dealers. It absolutely rollicks along and would be a classic if Dodge could wrote endings (his other great book, Not Fade Away also has a terrible ending). But the characters really are the highlight, particularly Mott Stocker and his mule Pissgums.

Favourite song - I can’t really pick one. Bohemian Rhapsody would be an obvious candidate, because it was the first music to really grab me and not let go. But it’s too obvious. I’m going to go with my iTunes most-played track, The Running Free by Coheed and Cambria - also my favourite band of more recent years.
