You're a better man than I am. I can't even remember the name of the bloke I let die.

Darros is (was) rubbish anyway. Barst(ard) and Minerva fill my axe needs.

But Darros can traverse across water, which came in deadly handy at times. I'll miss the dopey-looking fool. :(

I'm going to be honest. The only reason I don't use him is that bandana.

Not cool.

Anyway, Barst's maxed-out now, so it looks like Minerva's going to take over duties.

Is anybody using the 'Reclass' option? I haven't touched it.

I'm guessing using a Master Seal is the only way to change the class of your characters?

Shame. Getting everybody to level 21 and seeing what sweet new armour and stats they received was one of my favourite things in the console games.

I might even try forging a weapon in a bit. If I can think of something cool to name it.

I forged Shiida's lance and called it 'Ol Painless'. 8-)

Barst is now a Warrior.

Class-changing is still amazingly cool.

Only two Master Seals left now though.

How many are there? I've only gotten 4 so far, I think.

I had found three by the end of Chapter 14.

I'm not even sure how many chapters there are. I think the Eurogamer review said there were 20+.

24, I think.

How do you know there are only 5 Master Seals?

I've only got one. :( :( :(

Still no deaths, but I came very close with an archer in the last level.

Oxx- It's "Hardin"- admittefly, that's not much better than "Hardon" though.
I go for the (mainly) no axe users approach. I like to use myrmidons and flying units in particular.

There will probably be around 25 levels, so 24 sounds possible.

Also, as predicted, this is well on the way to becoming my GOTY.

Chalky- did you play PoR\RD\ the GBA versions (3 of them)?

(edit- Sorry HoC, the offer still stands though)

I've only ever played the 2 GBA games prior to this, nothing else.

Much like in Path of Radiance it seems like the vast majority of the early enemies are lance-users.

I don't know if I could have survived without a strong axe-man.

You'd love the console versions, there's more organising to do between battles. :P

On the subject of which games are best.

GBA games by an absolute mile.

I can't take anyone seriously who champions the series and then says its the GC/Wii versions that they love, the art is clearly inferior, the game design is clearly inferior and they aren't properly balanced.

Personally I'd put Sacred Stones above the original (western) Fire Emblem, but perhaps its better to play the original before SS...

...perhaps its better to play the console versions first, because clearly the GBA games ruined the later console fare for me.

Whereas I can't take anyone seriously who finishes Sacred Stones in one sitting. :P

Also, Radiant Dawn's difficulty lowered after the first couple of levels- 'twas easily doable on normal.

The sprites in handheld versions are better, but I preferred Bonus EXP to arenas.

They're both great, I just preferred the story of Ike and the Laguz.

Shadow Dragon is certainly a lot more coherent than the console versions - both in presentation and in mechanics.

It's also a lot more limited, safe, and unambitious. This might just be a limitation of the original NES game, though.

Hopefully Intelligent Systems will do an original Fire Emblem game for the DS next that brings together the presentation of the portable games and the gameplay progression of the most recent games.

At this point I kinda feel like IS should either really make an effort to progress the series on console or just concentrate on handhelds.

Depends what you mean by 'progress the series'...but I can't see them doing that.

What they really need to do is make a proper sequel to Thousand Year Door, but I suppose thats a matter for a different topic.

Progress the visual presentation at the very least.

Not sure about the game mechanics. There's certainly nothing in Radiant Dawn that couldn't be done on the DS.

I would say put a greater emphasis on a three-dimensional battlefield, but we all know that Intelligent Systems aren't exactly experts when it comes to 3D.
